A good book if you enjoy suspense and switching between storlines...but it felt a bit too Halmark for my taste.

I could say so much more but....books, romance, traveling librarians, and friends coming together is about all you need to know. A fantastic read...you won't be able to put it down.

This makes you believe it is your journey or somebody that you love dearly. If feels so true to the struggle of migrant people and their will for a better future. Gut-wrenchingly well-written.

Ask Again, Yes: A Novel | Mary Beth Keane
Mehso-so

I kept thinking the book title had something to do with a marraige proposal or some deep dark question that had to be asked...but in the end it was simply about lives intersecting. The questions and answers or lack of answers that often shape our lives despite ourselves.

Deliciously suspenseful...sister love/hate drama...teenage mischief...romance...and an deceptively lush island what more could a gal ask for???

Ah-mazing read. Chelsea didn't hold back about the very real struggles of an 11 month 11 country mission journey. It was freeing to read this and know it's ok to be human when trying to serve others. That it's ok not to have all our sh#t together...ever.

I wanted to fall in love with this book...for me it was a bit slow-moving and some of the characters were underdeveloped. The story however is very real around the world. I have hope that children/lives like these can be found and provided forever homes.

Exquisitely beautiful story of hate, love, cruelity, and survival. Hauntingly disturbing and romantic...it will tattoo your heart with the true horrors of humanity.

I laughed I almost cried... riding the waves of love, lust, hate, and romance. Light-hearted and a tad steamy...this book has it all.

Like peeling away at an onion...moments of laughter and tears understanding the many layers of this child star, wife, and mom. The different seasons Drew talked about brought me to examine my own chapters and paths yet discovered.

Phenomenal read. Thought-provoking, stunning, soul-opening book to a world so few people know about. Haben is brilliant and is changing the world as we speak. Someone I now look up to and admire. I hope she writes much more. She is a voice that needs to be heard around the globe.

A Man Called Ove: A Novel | Fredrik Backman
Pickpick

Brilliantly bitter and lovable Ove stole my heart. This tale reminds me of the old fella in the movie UP won over by an eager boy scout...in OVE a sad lonely man is won over by a whole neighborhood. If you can look past some very dark themes its an absolutely sweet read about a man with a big heart.

Oh so good. The paths less traveled and those we only wish we traveled. A uniquely beatiful way to write about love between two people...and how that love defined every love looking forward.

I couldn't help but gobble this book up. The characters were absolutely life-like especially the wonderfilled awe-inspiring Hazel living life with wide-eyed abandon. It totally makes me wish there was a real life Shark Club!!!

This book is the opposite of fine. Disturbing and disappointing are words I might suggest. It wasn't until chapters 10 or 11 that I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Reader's be cautioned. This book is bigger than someone just struggling with basic social skills or common sense.

So good. Wraps everything up and leaves room for possibilities. Also makes you think what untapped gifts you might have.

This book is like a watercolor painting. Vibrant, alluring, and somewhat disturbing. How family units sometimes are broken apart when dreams and promises aren't realized. The dark landscape of aloneness and how this young woman found new family that helped her grow up and become remarkable. Insurmountable love and loss. A great read but I felt it missed its mark in the last few chapters.

I love how each book grows the characters and their experience. So interesting to think how our gifts and abilities can work together to help others. This 3rd book really helped you fall in love wirh Matty and better depicted his struggles and how he grew up.

The Great Alone | Kristin Hannah

This book left me absolutely breathless. I spent 3 years enjoying this wild landscape myself so this was all the more real to me.

"this first kiss changed her, opened her up to a world she'd never imagined, a big, bright, shining universe full of unexpected possibilities."

This quote pretty much embodies Alaska and what it will do to you. I am undone by it's telling...

An absolute must read. Breathtaking. Shifting the norms. Taking a good look at our own misgivings. A real look into racism at our doorstep. Learning we all have faults and need to learn how to walk through the dark. I couldn't put this book down and certainly didn't want it to finish. In the end...just love.

Gathering Blue | Lois Lowry

I love how people's strengths and weaknesses are used differently in this read and how history is remembered, spun, and forgotten. Can not wait to see how these stories come together to see the whole picture.

I loved how the author painted a picture of summers in Northern Wisconsin for resort owners and workers. I felt however the overall main character Hannah's poor choices took away some of the charm of the book. The environmental message was loud and clear... and tying in how resorts become like a home away from home for repeat vacationers was golden.

The Castaways: A Novel | Elin Hilderbrand

The comaraderie was rather beautiful how they came together...fell apart...and found each other in their grief. Some of the storyline was a bit too far fetched...the intertwined relationships...vacations...but I guess if you're rich....that's real life???

Great author...just not the read for me.

Shaking up everything you know about family, career, and love. Can making choices be dangerous? The concept of having your own personal dreams and wants being bad for a society was intruiging. Excited to see where this author takes her readers next.

Sometimes the ending is the beginning. Loss, Love, and Fear of the Unknown. Each choice shapes our space and the people in our path. Plenty of quotes and things to chew on. Young and old will appreciate this read...it will change your heart. What would you do if you suddenly realized you could live your dreams...that you could do or be everything?

The Nickel Boys: A Novel | Colson Whitehead
Mehso-so

A disturbing but all too familiar tale of the horrific treatment of African American boys. The story haunts me as to how far we still need to go as a country to heal. I'm afraid our generation will be written about in the same disturbing light on the unjust treatment of many of our citizens. Such dark times.

What a disturbing read. I thought it was going to be a simple letter from an educated son to his mother who didn't speak English. The author wrote very detached and shared such graphic details about his sex life...I can't imagine anyone penning such a letter to their mother ever.
