Finishing up this week's work book on break today. Happy Friday, friends!

I wanted to fall in love with this book...for me it was a bit slow-moving and some of the characters were underdeveloped. The story however is very real around the world. I have hope that children/lives like these can be found and provided forever homes.

Definitely eye opening to a horrifying situation, but I spent the entire book nauseous and was not relieved of that feeling at the end. Not at all the direction I expected, and I feel betrayed. This was a bad time to read this one. 😭😭😭

Trying to get a head start on reading for my committee before I go on maternity leave. I‘m only a few pages in and my stomach‘s already in knots! #glgb

This amazing book is written to heighten awareness of homeless children around the world. Viji and her mentally challenged sister Rukku run away from the beatings at home-there‘s no one to protect them. They meet 2 boys in sim situation and become a family of sorts 😓 So good

To escape their abusive father, a girl & her sister—who has some kind of cognitive disability like Down Syndrome—flee to a city, where they team up with a pair of homeless boys. They find work such as garbage-picking & they look out for each other. A few passages are rather preachy, but overall this is a moving tale of children being resourceful. A middle grade #audiobook set in southern India and read by the author. #diversevoices

Amma trusted that if she put up with things, she‘d be rewarded with another—better—life, after she died. It made no sense to me why any god who made us suffer in this life would start caring for us in the next.

Readers will be captivated by this beautifully written novel about young people who must use their instincts and grit to survive. Padma shares with us an unflinching peek into the reality millions of homeless children live every day but also infuses her story with hope and bravery that will inspire readers and stay with them long after turning the final page.

What a sweet and powerful story! This one moved me to tears multiple times.

I‘ve taken over the buying of books for the children‘s section at work which means I‘ll be reading a lot more kids books. That‘s ok since I‘m essentially a foul-mouthed 10 year old at heart. Excited to start this middle-grade debut.
