“For as long as I can remember, books have been my safe place.” Lenora Allbright ~ The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah.
A story that resonated so deeply, it took me back to childhood. This is a story of love between a mother and daughter, finding courage, making difficult choices to survive against all odds, and redemption. Kristin Hannah has never failed to make me reflect on my own life and ask the important questions, “How can I apply this to my life.”
Her books are not only entertaining but deeply moving. #kristinhannah #alaska #courage #thegreatalone
The good ones will be taken care of. Bad apples rot all by themselves. Another great read by Kristin Hannah!!
One of the most compelling, heart wrenching, tear jerking, breath taking reads - EVER! Easily one of my top 5 faves! The way the author gave each character a background story and how each characters story intertwined. The last 20+ chapters, I literally had a book light on and couldn't STOP reading. I was on the edge of my seat!
Wonderful! Perfect for #audiogardening It felt expansive, beautiful, and dangerous. Just like the Alaskan wilderness where it is set. The writing is gorgeous, just like every Hannah book I‘ve read. I listened on #audio though I‘ve owned the book since it was released. Glad I finally got to it! #MountTBR #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
A beautiful story. Paints Alaska to be a land of familial grace and loyalty. Easy and quick read!!
I listened to the audio and it was so good. The descriptions were amazing, and I was pulled right in, and I stayed interested all the way through (except one short section toward the end that wasn‘t quite as engrossing). I loved some of the secondary characters, especially Large Marge. This is likely to make my favourites this year
The Great Alone 4.5🌟
I love Kristen Hannah's historical fiction, but they're just brutal. I was in tears.
Starting Before the coffee gets cold today.
#ThingsinCommon both books deal with regrets and second chances. @Clwojick
Enjoying some me time and finishing up this book. Definitely a pick. Wow!! Loved it.

Thanks for the tag @TheSpineView !
1. I can‘t remember finishing any ebooks last year, so my longest audiobook was The Great Alone at 15 hours.
2. Yes. Just the size alone intimidates me. I also avoid borrowing chunksters from the library because I know I won‘t finish them in time.
If you‘re reading this, consider yourself tagged.

A heart-wrenching story of survival in one of the worlds toughest climates, where there were dangers in every dark corner of the forest- and an even bigger monster in their own home. This book left me gutted, but the ending was one everyone deserved. ❤️ Just read it.
Thanks so much to @Read4life for recommending this book to me for my #12Challenge! This was exactly what I needed right now. My first Kristin Hannah book and not my last! What an emotional roller coaster I went on! Her parents made me so upset, especially her dad. I find people who can live on the land so fascinating (why I watch the tv show Alone). I could never do it, but I definitely enjoy reading about it!
In 1974, this surprises me.
This reminds me of when my father in law recently said to my husband, “Oh, I saw you bought Mikala a new jeep.” And my husband‘s response was, “Um no, she bought it herself. She makes her own money.”
1. The tagged book. 2. Read books that promote self-care, which is all of them!3. Cuddly blankets! 😊. Thanks for asking me to play, @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick and @Eggs
“You know what they say about finding a man in Alaska—the odds are good, but the goods are odd.”
#unpopular opinion
The Great Alone: I listened to this during the storming of the capitol in January, and just couldn‘t take the unrelenting suffering.
The Girl in the Mirror: There was too much I couldn‘t buy into, and the main character really grated on me.
The Cracked Spine: Just a big letdown because it had all the things I love. The protagonist was interrogative in an annoying way. But it‘s the first in a series and I would read others.
I‘ve read page turners- yet this is a page turner that I had to scream, walk away for a few minutes, and jump back in. Favorite Hannah book. 13 year old Leni moves to Alaska in the mid 70s, with her father with post Vietnam PTSD and mother who still loves the man she met prior to the war. Leni and her family learn how to live in the ‘Great Alone‘ with all the neighborly support it brings. Love, toxicity, and danger all around. #doublespin for Nov
Hard to read a page turner when you can‘t turn the pages! #catsoflitsy
This is one of the best books I‘ve ever read! I have never wanted to applaud a book after I‘ve read it, but I definitely did for this one! Soo much happened in these 545 pages, and I was here for all of it! MUST READ!!
A story of loss and love set in Alaska, this book was very well written. While some of the storylines are predictable, there‘s never a dull moment. You‘ll be invested in the characters from the get go.
The author has captured Alaska‘s wildness, her imperviousness & also her love & tenderness very well. I won‘t be surprised if someone went to Alaska to find their own adventure after reading this book.
Julia Whelan‘s narration was spectacular.
If I had to choose a favorite book, this would be it ❤️
Reread this amazing book again!!
I should know by now not to read the end of a Kristin Hannah book in public. Every time with the ugly cries. She has this way of letting the characters get into your heart when you may not have even known they were there, and then you find yourself sobbing into a Delta Airlines napkin. A little different setting than I'm used to with her but the same kind of storytelling, and I enjoyed it very much.
4.75 🌟
@Leniverse the Leni in this book is a reader too 🤣!
#bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks
A bit of a stretch, but I'm using this for #vietnam #readingasia2021, as the war has given the MC's Dad PTSD and lurks large throughout the novel. @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB
I didn‘t take a pic of the weather for day 2 but here is 1 of me skiing at Mookerawa back in Jan. It‘s my resting place now but when I was a teen we would camp here & the adults stayed in the cabins & left us alone. Many wild nights were had as you can imagine. I learnt to ski when I was 12 (I think). Started on 2 skis then went to 1. Tried bare footing a couple of xs with no success. I discovered this summer that I can no longer jump start 😭
Finished this heart wrenching book while eating lunch. I absolutely loved it. It broke my heart and gave me hope. I don‘t know why I waited so long to make this book a priority. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Happy Wednesday 😝. Here‘s a shelf pic. Hope your having a fantastic day 💚
When your hold comes in faster than you expected and there is a wait behind you... you start ASAP! I have a few audiobooks going but it‘s worth it! 😂
Kristin Hannah is simply a great writer. I wouldn‘t rank it over The Nightingale or Firefly Lane (this one was a bit more soap-opera-y), but I could NOT put it down.
My brother, who has an MFA in poetry, recommended this book to me. I have officially learned to listen when he suggests certain authors and books. I could hardly put down this amazing story that ultimately felt like an emotional rollercoaster. Hannah does a wonderful job capturing the beauty in what's painful and highlighting strength when all seems hopeless. I can't wait to read another one of her books!
This is the story of a family who leaves behind their past and start anew in Alaska. They do not come prepared and have to quickly acclimate to their new surroundings. The father, Ernt, is a former Vietnam veteran, so the mother, Cora; and the daughter, Leni; have to deal with the tenuous relationship.
This was my first Kristen Hannah book I‘ve read and I really enjoyed it! I will definitely read more of her work!
#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView Thanks for the tag!
1. The tagged book was a great book club pick that I was part of last year.
2. I would choose any Kristin Hannah or Maeve Binchy book.
Can you play? @LitStephanie @magyklyXdelish @Twainy @MaleficentBookDragon @Bec_lectic @MartinaLove
A little too much detail for my taste, but a good family drama overall. I liked that the story was set in Alaska. That made it unique.
Working on some #litsylove writing tonight and starting my book for book club! How's your Sunday going?!?
