Went to see Anthony Adeane at his book event at the Wigtown (Scotland‘s National Book Town) Book Festival and boy oh boy this book sounds fascinating! Hope to read soon! He also made a documentary about it for the BBC which is now on Netflix.

It‘s indeed a unique idea and one I was excited to read. And I did enjoy it but just not quite as much as I was expecting and it was more to do with how I felt about some of the characters and how each of their stories were told - something which might not bother other readers as much. I just wanted to find out more about the other siblings and their relationships with each other (or lack of) during each of their individual stories.

Dr Chaterjee‘s pillars of EAT, SLEEP, RELAX and MOVE is an amazing way to focus on the things you need to prioritise in life to feel and be healthier physically and mentally.
He‘s a U.K. based practicing GP and he‘s not selling a product, he‘s not selling anything other than free, easy tips to try for a healthier way of life. I‘m not often a re-reader but I‘ll be re-reading this and I‘ve already subscribed to his podcast. HIGHLY recommend.

Interesting idea - the moral dilemma and debate of what you would do when your child commits a crime! So that made it intriguing. It took a while to get going but the second half of the book redeems itself a little but not enough to warrant more than 3⭐️
Pretty much all the characters are detestable but I think that might be the point, but not any less irksome. Worth a read for a bit of discussion after it.

I read this mainly because it was the Jimmy Fallon summer read along choice and boy I‘m glad I did. Despite not being my usual “go to” genre this was a brilliant read. Fantastically written, with great characters and very poignant story lines (that quite intelligently reflects today‘s society). What a brilliant story teller Adeyemi is! And I can‘t wait until she writes the next book 🙌🏻

Blooming brilliant thriller, great holiday read. Gripping, post apocalyptic page turner. Highly recommend if you‘re looking for a good thriller. I think this book deserves to be a movie.

When a book makes me snort giggle out loud at things that you kinda know you shouldn‘t be laughing at but Lawson can‘t help but make you AND when you force your other half to listen to excerpts as you repeat what you‘ve just read you know this is a 5⭐️ read.

Lawson‘s humour and honesty about her life is brilliant, weird and funny. She declares herself crazy, she lives with mental illness, but as she says “sometimes crazy is just right.”

A fantastically written book, but it's the darkness and uncomfortable reading experience which has meant I've given this a "so-so" rating. Making it difficult to recommend as it was hard to read all 128 pages, but that in itself says a lot about the writer.

A Man Called Ove: A Novel | Fredrik Backman
Pickpick

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I loved this book and Fredrik Backman is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors. I took my time with this book as I didn't want it to end and enjoyed every time I spent with main character, Ove, and all the others to be honest. This grumpy old man made me giggle and cry. Backman has a talent for writing fabulous character, I miss them already now I've finished the book.

I was excited to finally get round to reading this (it was our book group read) but I have to say I overall felt a little disappointed and a bit underwhelmed.

There were many times when I was a little bored and not gripped by the stories while at other times gripped by McMurphy and Nurse Ratched's relationship and power struggles.

This is one of the few instances where I think the film is better than the book.

Guantanamo Diary | Mohamedou Ould Slahi
Pickpick

This is an essential, harrowing, jaw dropping, tragic read. Mohamedou Ould Slahi's diary of interrogations and imprisonment in Guantanamo is shocking to say the least. To know that we treat other human beings like that, irrespective of guilt, is horrific. Oh and by the way Mohamedou spent 14yrs without charge, because there was and is no evidence of him ever being a terrorist or involved in terrorism, being grossly interrogated by the US. 😔

3-4⭐️ read outta 5. An absolutely fascinating concept and some amazingly well written main characters, this is an impressive debut novel. I rattled through this book, eager to know "why", but it's probably my age (40) that leans this towards a 3⭐️ as opposed to 4, albeit I read a lot of YA but this read did feel a bit further out of my reach. In saying that I would recommend and I still now want to indulge in true Netflix adaptation.

Erinreadsthebooks That's my plan as well--Read the book. Watch the show. See if the hype is worth it. I hope it is! 7y

First released 20yrs ago this year, so I decided it was time for a re-read! Only the 2nd time reading it and it won't be my last. I'm not sure what to say about this book other than it's a purely magical read (for everyone). Rowling' writing is both clever, entertaining and beautiful.

I didn't know the band or Laura Jane Grace but You don't need to, to enjoy this book. A fantastic, heart felt and honest story. Following her struggles of growing up as a boy, delinquency, drug use while trying to become a successful punk band (against the back lash of militant punks that considered them sellouts) whilst fundamentally dealing with a lifetime of gender dysphoria. A remarkable story!

And so I finally read Jane Eyre and I really really enjoyed it, what stunning writing and wonderful characters. At times I was genuinely blown away with Bronte's writing, it was beautiful.

Surprisingly I've managed to avoid knowing the story for the last 40years so that made the reading of this even more enjoyable and jaw dropping at points.

Megabooks You make me want to read it. I've missed out on so many classics! 7y

5⭐️ read!Wow! I loved this book. Set in 1950s it follows the story of 3 amazing characters who are trying to make a success in the publishing industry whilst struggling with issues of race, gender, sexuality and betrayal. I absolutely loved following these characters even when at times you might not always like them. I spent a week lost in the hipster era of NY's village in the late 50s with conflicted characters that I won't forget very quickly.

A charming little doggy-tastic read about how much dogs (in this case Boston Terriers) bring into your life. Julie goes from owning her first dog Otto to volunteering to rescue and foster Boston terriers and it's through all her anecdotes that she shows how doggy companionship offers something unique to any other relationships. A nice read for dog lovers ❤🐶

Despite being gripped by the first third I just found the structure a bit all over the place & was struggling to follow the stories of certain individuals. I wouldn't call it a psychological suspense (as it does in its blurb) but it's certainly an interesting insight into the horrible childhood and life her mother had before her (that she never shared while alive). Given the subject it was disappointing as I think it could have been much better.

One word: WOW!
Anyone who knows me knows I'm not a crier, I'm like the Cameron Diaz character in The Holiday who can't cry, but this book had me sobbing like a baby AND it's a children's book!
Outstandingly beautiful storytelling which is so poignant and heart warming that I defy anyone to feel emotional when reading this exceptional book.
I would love to see the movie adaptation of this but might need to wait until I can watch at home!

Wonderfully witty insight into the life of the fabulous Carrie Fisher, which I enjoyed being read to me by her as the narrator for this edition on audible. Despite the trials she faced in life with addiction and mental health she is a first rate comic when reciting it while delivering a very poignant awareness raising message about mental health issues. Fabulous, yet a sad read at this time!

Really wish I could give this 3.5⭐️ it's certainly more that than a three!
