Agatha Raisin and the Vicious Vet
Agatha Raisin and the Vicious Vet | M. C. Beaton
Agatha lets sleeping vets lie... Retired PR boss Agatha Raisin is enjoying life in her pretty Cotswold village of Carsely. It even seems likely that the attractive new vet, Paul Bladen, has taken a shine to her. But before romance can blossom, Paul is killed in an accident with Lord Pendlebury's horse. Only the circumstances are rather suspicious. Agatha decides she must once more play amateur investigator. And this cloud has a silver lining - she can persuade her usually stand-offish neighbour, James Lacey, to become her partner in the quest. As usual, Agatha is quite prepared to rush in, heedless of the lurking menace to both James and herself. Praise for the Agatha Raisin series: 'Agatha is like Miss Marple with a drinking problem, pack-a-day habit and major man lust. I think she may be living my dream life.' Entertainment Weekly 'Clever red herrings and some wicked unfinished business guarantees that the listener will pant for a sequel.' The Times Audiobook Review

Another clever cozy with comic relief from our heroine getting herself into ridiculous jams along the way. I‘ll definitely continue with this series.

The second Agatha Raisin book (#SeriesLove2024). Agatha is quite the character and continues her pursuit of James. I do enjoy Agatha‘s relationship with Bill Wong. He is her friend and as direct with her as she is with everyone.

When a good looking middle-aged vet opens a vet practice in Carsley, every woman of a certain age desires to become the next Mrs…Agatha being one of them. But, murder happens, and Agatha has to figure out what happened. Rereading this series reminds me how much I am not a fan of James Lacey. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Getting a head start on my #SeriesLove2023 goal while I set up my 2023 reading planner.

I quite enjoyed listening to this - Agatha cracks me up and it was good to get to know James Lacey a bit. For me, the character building was better than the actual mystery, but given how many books are in this series, I‘m totally fine with that!

TheSpineView Good job! 2y

Forgot to do my #BookReport yesterday. Finished 6 books. All were great. Only 1 was audio.

Currently reading The Goblin Emperor. I‘m 54% into it but I think my loan is going to expire before I finish it. It expires in 2 days!

#WeeklyForecast - I‘m planning to take it easy this month since I read so much in October. Endenbrooke was an October #LMPBC book, so I should get to that one first!

Cinfhen Wow!!!! How are you finding the time??? Fabulous ❤️🙌🏻😊 3y

Maybe because it was a different narrator but I didn‘t enjoy this one as much as the first. I‘m really not a fan of the James Lacey character and hate seeing Agatha wasting time trying to get his attention. Also, another male philanderer as the murder victim was kinda meh.

Perfect holiday read. Madcap amateur detective story with cats. Set in the Cotswolds. Picked it up at a Little Library in Adelaide. The first I have read in the AR series but keen to try another.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag The early Agathas are the best! As is this cover art! 4y

Book 2 in the Agatha Raisin series finds Agatha teaming up with her crush, James Lacey to solve the mystery of the vet's death. It also features Agatha trashing a bathroom in a pub trying to cover up a blemish, which was hilarious and relatable.

#3Books I read in a day. I just just read and finished the Agatha Raisin novel today, and Pumpkin Head is a fairly recent one dayer. And when I was a kid, I devoured Pike books like it was my job.

Book 2 in the Agatha Raisin series was just as enjoyable as the first. Agatha reminds me a bit of Eleanor Oliphant. I‘m happy there are so many books in this series because it truly is escapism to me. What would I do without my cozy mysteries! 4⭐️

MallenNC @ferskner Thanks to my library‘s audiobook collection! I‘m switching over to a Hannah Swenson mystery now. I‘ve only read one of those. 5y

Another wonderful story in the world of Agatha Raisin!
With a second new love interest to the mix, Agatha is torn. But when the new vet is killed in the stables she is left to discover who the murderer is!

I love the close calls Agatha Raisin has when she is detecting, adds a tension to the stories that entices you to turn the page. ☺

Nute I love that these books remind you of a childhood memory with your Grandmother.💕Every time I see a crossword puzzle, I am reminded of my Grandmother. She was always working on a crossword puzzle and trusting that one of her grandchildren would know a five-letter word for this or a seven-letter word for that.🙂 5y
Clutterbucks_Queen Haha, yes my grandmother used to ask me for crossword answers too! Along with certain books, there are certain smells that remind me of her too! Some things just wont ever be forgotten! X 5y

I read this entire book last night in one sitting. Haven't done that in a while! This second Agatha mystery was satisfying not only in the fact that that horrible vet was killed, but that we see things from James Lacey's view as well. Waiting until tomorrow for the next few books is going to be torture!

[DELETED] 2232195534 That Agatha Raisin - she is quite the character! 8y

I liked the first book in the series, but I found the character of Agatha Raisin too grating to enjoy this book fully. Pretty common reaction, from what I understand. I may continue the series, but not for awhile. I need some time to get over Agatha.

If you like Agatha Christie mysteries then I recommend M.C. Beaton's Hamish MacBeth mysteries. The Agatha Raisin mysteries are okay but not quite as good. They are a little silly, but quite entertaining. Perfect for a rainy day. B-
