Shocking revelations kept me turning the pages like a madwoman TESS GERRITSEN Fast-paced and addictive, THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR announces a major new talent in thriller writing. **** You never know what's happening on the other side of the wall. This was a page turner for about 80% of the book. There were lots of twists and turns, ups and downs; points where I thought I knew where the author was going and then...boom! Another twist.

Sadly, the descend was a let-down. It wasn't particularly bad, just boring and predictable; as if the author gave up. Or, maybe, since it started out on a high, I was expecting it to end on high. Isn‘t it fair to have those expectations, though?🤷🏾‍♀️

Upstate New York - Baby Cora was kidnapped while her parents, Anne and Marco Conti, were visiting their neighbors, Cynthia and Graham. Suspicion falls on the parents. Det. Rasbach knows they are hiding something. The couple do have secrets they‘ve kept for years. I loved this book as many twists and turns led to a very surprising ending. I‘m looking forward to another book by Lapena and highly recommend this book to those who love thrillers.

At the risk of sounding mean I‘m submitting my honest review.
The people, their actions, the plot was stupid, not believable, and frankly juvenile.
As a reader I was insulted.
Whoa, sorry.

LauraJ Don‘t apologize. Your review is valid! 2mo
Hooked_on_books I love a thriller but never quite wanted to read this one. I love your review—it made me laugh. 2mo

Deifio Yay! 🎉 Is it end of term or only christmas break? My semester doesn't end until mid February 😒 But I do get 2 weeks christmas break 😁 2mo
cleoh @Deifio technically both I guess! The new term will start in January. How come your term goes so long? Do you start later? 2mo
Deifio In Germany we start the winter term mid October, then 2 weeks christmas break and on to mid February. Then summer term usually starts middle/end of April until end of July 2mo

So just finished The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena. Whoosh what an ending. I definitely wasn‘t expecting that and I could definitely see a sequel being written. The second half of the book was full of all sorts of twists. At first I wasn‘t too sure about this one but ended up really enjoying it. Would definitely read a sequel if one was ever made.

I‘ve been getting into domestic thrillers recently. (Is that what they‘re called?). And picked this up off the clearance rack at Barnes and Noble. While it‘s not at all a bad story it took me a while to get used to the writing style. However I‘m halfway through the book and things are really picking up. Looking forward to my reading time tonight and seeing the mystery unfold.

Awww my Whiskers ❤️the bad news is that I am sick, I feel like garbage. The good news is that means reading time! I really enjoyed this one, I would have enjoyed it more had I not completed it starting at 4:30 this morning.

It was great, starts with a bang and really kept me guessing. There were a couple of good surprises and boy did I like the end.

Reggie Lol, this book is maybe one of the only 2 pans I have ever given on here. I don‘t know what it was, maybe that the fathers who pretend kidnapped but really put his son in danger got off? Idk. I was super frustrated with this book. Lol. 4mo

The tension of this read was great at first, but the narrative really didn‘t end up making sense to me. Over the top twists that just didn‘t seem like they would ever really happen made for a less than rad ending. The topic was a good one, just wished it had played out differently.

Wow. WoW. WOW. This book was incredibly suspenseful, and I thoroughly didn't expect the twists and turns. I'm not really the reader that tries to figure it out, anyway, but a lot of this I didn't predict. Except for the VERY end, to which I am absolutely positively happy and fine with. Good for her, tbh. This was my last book for this weekend's #24B4Monday!

Read this in 2 sittings, definitely a page turner. Author could have written more on Anne's dissociative disorder, perhaps done more research. The book could have had a nice happy ending by stopping just a page shorter - I don't think there was any need for Anne to kill Cynthia, she could have just held that information and been 'in control' of Cynthia instead...
I did enjoy this book though, and would be interested in reading her next novel.

This book is an insane thrill ride that kept me glued to the very last page... it takes a bit to really get going, but once the first twist drops, it‘s just not what you expect and it‘s not until the end that all the pieces fall into place.. an incredible thriller that I would suggest to anyone that loves a good domestic suspense read!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A gripping listen about a kidnapping, a ransom, mothering, and mental health. A baby is taken from her crib while her parents are next door at a dinner party. It becomes obvious halfway through, but the case becomes more complicated and ends with an....unnecessary....twist.

A well known quote springs to mind
“For the love of money is the root of all evils” -1 Timothy 6:10 ✝️

This was a bit of a rollercoaster for me a times a real page turner ... clutching my phone torch after lights out but I did find the characters quite frustrating at times and not sure how I feel about the ending 😕

Worth a read but won‘t be going on my fav book list

Slightly underwhelmed by this storyline. Most end of chapters had mediocre cliffhangers, I didn‘t feel compelled to finish this book as soon as possible. Some details in the story weren‘t revealed well, such as Richard Dries‘ relationship with Derek Honig, or why Derek introduced himself to Marco under a fake alias. Some parts just didn‘t connect!

Powered_By_Plants I agree , Just finished this one too and I felt quite frustrated by Anne! 8mo
