One for Sorrow: A Ghost Story | Mary Downing Hahn

I never thought Ms. Hahn could write a book I liked as much as Wait Til Helen Comes, but she has! It‘s set during the winter of 1918 when the Spanish Influenza was at its worst, and I think the historical element was what made it so enjoyable for me. I love books that mix genres!

Newest book club read. Even if I didn't think this book sounded amazing, I still would have read it based solely on the blurb from Conan O'Brien, "This deliciously madcap novel has it all: murder in Prague, time travel, a misanthropic Beethoven, tantric sex, and a dwarf with attitude. " ??

I'm new to the whole audio book game, so please forgive me if this is a really dumb question...Can anyone tell me why books I downloaded from the library wouldn't play through Bluetooth or AppleCar Play in my car?? Is there another step that I need to take to make this happen or is it impossible??

Mariposa_Bookworm Did you have other apps open that we're using the audio? My iTunes playlist automatically plays when I get in the car, so I have to manually switch to something else. Our library uses Overdrive and I've not had any problems with audiobooks. 7y
hufflepuff_librarian @Mariposa_Bookworm I was using google maps, but I can listen to iTunes while that is running, so I wouldn't think it would be an issue? I'll try it again without maps and see what happens. 🤔 7y

I am really enjoying this World War II story so far. The story of Ada, who has a clubfoot, and her brother Jamie who leave London and go to live in the countryside during the war. In this story their life is WAY better than the one they endured with their sadistic evil mother, who locked Ada away in their apartment for her whole life (10 years!!) bc her disability was an embarrassment.

Enjoying the glorious weather we are having here in Arkansas (70 in February!!) by diving into this series that is very popular with my students. I've been wanting to read it all year, but the first book kept getting checked out, so I'm hoping it's as good as they all seem to make it out to be. So far I haven't been disappointed, but I've always been fond of a good dragon story.

Making Bombs for Hitler | Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch

This was such a great read. It tells the story of a young Ukrainian girl who is taken by the Nazi's and forced to work in a slave camp. I had no idea that this happened, but according to the author's note in the back, there were between 3 and 5.5 million of these children. They were taken from the streets, from school, or anywhere else children were gathered. Such a heartbreaking story, but an important one for people to know about.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as some of Carrie Fisher's other books. It does give a fun peak into what it was like for to film her fist movie at 19, a movie she had no idea would launch her immediately into stardom! It was definitely bittersweet to come to the end and realize it's the last of her memoirs we'll get to read. 🙁❤

I am loving this book so far. When I picked up I did not realize that it's a retelling of The Scarlet Pimpernel, which I loved when I read it in jr. high. The best part though, is that the hero in this tale is not a dashing and debonair man, but a teenage girl!

This is the story of a young British girl who is sent to live with her American relatives during World War II (I know, the cover is very misleading!), whom she has never met while her parents go back to London, or so she thinks. While there she discovers so, so many secrets about the family and her parents. This book is part mystery, part historical fiction, part coming of age story & 100% delightful!!
