I've got a lot of reading to do...
"Our job as parents is to find our child's 'grain' and go with it, because going against that grain is frustrating for the carpenter and in the end wrecks the wood."
My mother's day present: a couple child-free hours to read at my favorite coffee shop. (Incidentally, @pocketmermaid sent me this book while I was in college almost 20 years ago. Progress on my massive TBR is slow but always enjoyable. ☺️📚)
So, my husband moved my books into our new house last week, and now I feel totally paralyzed over what I am going to read next ... #bookproblems
Mexican beans and rice -- yummy and SO easy, one of the only recipes I have ever made that SAYS it only takes 5 minutes, and then ACTUALLY only takes 5 minutes. Took the photo of my toddler's plate because his remained totally undisturbed. 😛 #cookbookproject #cookbooks
First book checked out from the library in my new hometown!
Barley risotto with peas and ricotta. I liked it a lot -- my husband and son were less impressed. Too bad, I froze a bunch and they'll be eating it three more times! #cookbookproject #cookbooks
Brown rice and lentil soup from my favorite cookbook. Very good, inexpensive ingredients, can be made with or without meat, and makes enough to freeze lots of leftovers. A win in my book! #cookbookproject #cookbooks
Waffled grilled cheese -- it was very good, but you can't really go wrong with grilled cheese, amiright? #cookbookproject #cookbooks
Quick potatoes and Franks -- about as lackluster as it looks and sounds. But it was edible, and economical! #cookbooks #cookbookproject
Corn and Franks! Still cooking from my college cookbook at 37 because I am still broke! Very good. #cookbookproject #cookbooks
Got a kick out of this note in one of my used books. Check the criticism against the book's title.
Corn soup -- added some kielbasa for extra protein, and substituted carrots I needed to use up for the celery. Very good, and soothing for my husband and son's colds. #cookbooks #cookbookproject
Discovering one of life's greatest joys -- picking your next book!
Hot dog soup -- better than I expected! #cookbookproject
My Mother's Day gift: a baby-free hour with my current read at my favorite coffee shop! With thanks to @pocketmermaid for the lovely book sleeve to protect a borrowed book while I am out and about!
Fun readaloud with lots of opportunities to shake things up for the little one with a wiggle, a tickle, etc. Nice message about accepting what's right for you even if it's not what works for everyone else. #1001booksbeforeyougrowup
Cute, lovely illustrations, bold colors, captures separation anxiety fairly well -- but we never find out where Mama Owl went! #1001booksbeforeyougrowup
Fun read aloud, and the flap lifting delighted my little one. The ending was a little cliche, but the book was still fun enough to read twice. #1001booksbeforeyougrowup
Not much plot here, and the illustrations aren't cute enough to make up for it. #1001booksbeforeyougrowup
Fun sound effects, cute illustrations, an unexpectedly sad ending! #1001childrensbooksbeforeyougrowup
Also dal Gobi - very good, out of one of my favorite cookbooks. #cookbookproject
Norwegian pancakes, rating = v. good. #cookbooks #cookbookproject
Fun book -- I liked all the fairy tale and nursery rhyme references. I did all the work with the I Spy game -- will be fun to revisit when my son is older and can participate more. Please excuse how rough we look in the photo -- we are both sick! #1001booksbeforeyougrowup
Potato pancakes from my cook book project. Recipe average, but the cookbook is a good one.
Has anyone else had zebra toys totally ruined by "The Art of Racing in the Rain"? That book was SO not worth the trauma.
Perhaps we owe some of our most moving literature to men who didn't understand that they wanted to be women nursing babies.
Book box from my dear friend @pocketmermaid!! I have some great maternity leave reading to look forward to. 😀 (Plus a couple literary condoms for that distant day when I am ready to get back in the game. 😉)
Annual book reorganizing!! (This job ain't getting done in a day.)
This is my kind of childbirth book!
Hubby put up a new shelf in the kitchen so my #cookbooks are no longer crammed into a drawer. Now I just need the time to cook!!
Two used book sales in two days!! Today's haul cost a whopping $5. Most excited about the soup book because lately I am obsessed with #food.
All this (plus two not-pictured books I bought for others) for $7.00. I love #usedbooksales
I have not even touched a copy of "What to expect while you're expecting" ... These have been my favorite pregnancy books. ☺#cookbooks #food #nutrition #yummy
