Finding this overwhelmingly pretentious and annoying. Considering jettisoning - life's too short for books I don't enjoy reading!! Would be keen to hear others' thoughts though

I'm about halfway through this and am feeling fairly like warm about it. So far, I've always enjoyed Greene's books but have never been gripped by them...
