I definitely need a lighter read now. This was grey and melancholy and 💔.
The writing was beautiful and the story uncomfortable.
A short story for me!

Title fits the day. Been raining for about 24 hours now and feels like November! Have read half this book over lunchtime and just know it‘s not going to end well!!
I don‘t really do chocolate so hubby always buys me a couple of books! All #blameitonlitsy friends!
Have a good day all whatever you‘re up to.
@Centique Thanks for putting this out there! Have you ever read The Lover by Marguerite Duras? I feel like they are in the same vein of work. Short, strong sense of setting. Not really a story but images that leave an impression and subtly pull emotion. I think you would like it. This was a sister‘s tale of love for her brother and their playful childhood imagination that couldn‘t save them from everything one summer. Sooo good.
This little novella was both rich and unsettling. It doesn‘t have the arc and plot line of a novel, more a series of memories, almost dreamlike, of a childhood‘s summers spent by the lake. The children watch their parents crumbling marriage, hide from the bewildering chaos of night after night of adult parties. Most of all this captures the love of a big sister for her little brother. As a big sister myself it felt exactly right. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
