Comics written & drawn by Indigenous artists. Traditional tales & original stories with characters and themes from those tales. Many deal with modern problems like suicide, missing girls, and environmental devastation. https://cannonballread.com/2021/07/moonshot-the-indigenous-comics-collection-vol...

Spotted these on my boyfriend's coffee table. They look like perfect reads for #IndigenousPeoplesDay and today's #riotgrams prompt. Have any of you #comics fans read these?

We in Canada have done some disgusting things to indigenous communities in our short 150 years. This is a fantastic way to save and spread parts of indigenous history/culture. Many indigenous communities here suffer from low literacy rates (partially caused by the residential schools) which makes the idea of presenting these stories in art an even better idea. Stunningly beautiful gorgeous artwork. Can't wait for vol. 2

brilliantglow I have a copy of this, I haven't had a chance to read it yet but the illustrations are stunning 7y

Alternative History Comics has done a fantastic job editing together a rather strong collection of stories from various indigenous creators. While some are definitely stronger than others, every piece had something unique and interesting to share.

My favourite entry was the impactful and beautiful Vision Quest: Echo by David Mack and I love Stephen Glaude's cover image Northern Crow. The other pieces are all worth your time as well.

UrsulaMonarch What a cool collection, thanks for posting! 7y
MoniqueChristine No problem, glad you like it 😊 7y

My SO wanted to go grocery shopping while I was in the middle of my last sprint so I tried to read in the vehicle but got pretty car sick. Oh well. I'm so close to the end that I might as well finish it now. :p

One more sprint to go! And I'm halfway through this anthology. It's a nice collection of talent.

Second sprint done. Two more to go. I found this story interesting and it's illustrations haunting, but I'd argue that bares no resemblance to a comic.

Gorgeous books and lovely bookmarks! My copies of these GNs just arrived and I can't wait to savor them. Comic anthologies with stories by indigenous creators. This is one of the reasons I still love kickstarter- it helps bring more voices to the table.

The title page of the story by Richard Van Camp (Tlicho). It's about a ceremony honouring both ancestors and caribou spirits called 'Night of the Spirits' Return', which coincides with Halloween. #IndigenousLit #DiverseComics #WeNeedDiverseBooks #Halloween

More beautiful art in this Indigenous comics collection! Also by Cree artist Stephen Gladue, who also did the cover for the book. #DiverseComics

Thought I would capture my beautiful flowering hibiscus and continue to rave about this collection of comics by Indigenous writers and artists. Amazing cover art done by Cree artist Stephen Gladue. #DiverseComics

read_diverse_books Gorgeous picture. I really need to hunt this book down. 😍 8y
Lindy There's a qalupalik story in this one that has stuck with me, even though I can't remember the creator. Also, I think there's a second volume of Moonshot now. #nativebooks 8y
Lindy Oops, I was wrong. Volume 2 fundraising through Kickstarter was successful, but it hasn't been put together yet. 8y

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @Lindy Just read that one! Incredible. The writers are Sean and Rachel Qitsualik-Tinsley. Illustrator is menton3. 8y
Lindy Oh yes! Thanks. Sean and Rachel are also the authors of a book with a bad cover (almost put me off reading it) and great contents: 8y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @Lindy Oh good to know. Yes a cover can make or break a book. 8y
