Killing Kennedy: The End of Camelot | Bill O'Reilly, Martin Dugard
14 posts | 57 read | 17 to read
A riveting historical narrative of the shocking events surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and the follow-up to mega-bestselling author Bill O'Reilly's Killing LincolnMore than a million readers have thrilled to Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln, the page-turning work of nonfiction about the shocking assassination that changed the course of American history. Now the anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts in gripping detail the brutal murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedyand how a sequence of gunshots on a Dallas afternoon not only killed a beloved president but also sent the nation into the cataclysmic division of the Vietnam War and its culture-changing aftermath. In January 1961, as the Cold War escalates, John F. Kennedy struggles to contain the growth of Communism while he learns the hardships, solitude, and temptations of what it means to be president of the United States. Along the way he acquires a number of formidable enemies, among them Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, and Alan Dulles, director of the Central Intelligence Agency. In addition, powerful elements of organized crime have begun to talk about targeting the president and his brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy. In the midst of a 1963 campaign trip to Texas, Kennedy is gunned down by an erratic young drifter named Lee Harvey Oswald. The former Marine Corps sharpshooter escapes the scene, only to be caught and shot dead while in police custody. The events leading up to the most notorious crime of the twentieth century are almost as shocking as the assassination itself. Killing Kennedy chronicles both the heroism and deceit of Camelot, bringing history to life in ways that will profoundly move the reader. This may well be the most talked about book of the year.

I will read any book on JFK. I loved the details and moments that not everyone may be aware of.

After reading about and watching many documentaries; even though I had already known most of the facts included, this was still a book worth listening to.

Very well compiled.

Eggs I‘m JFK obsessed also...I was 11 when he was murdered. I had to go see the spot in Dallas where he was shot 5y
KristenDuck @Eggs that must have been so heavy. 5y
Eggs Soooo sad 5y

If I‘m ever searching for a book and am not sure what I‘m in the mood for, I fall back to the Kennedy family.

Fascinated by them.

Is there a topic/subject/person that you‘re just always willing to read about?

Butterfinger Yes. I am that way about the Romanovs. 5y
PurpleTulipGirl Tudor England. Before we moved from California to Texas, I had pretty much every book by Alison Weir or Antonia Fraser, plus some more scholarly stuff I had to read in a class I took on early modern Britain. 5y
sheshedbooks Virginia Woolf. 😄 5y

I finished this one during my morning gym time. I do love history books that aren‘t a pain to get through.

Since 1840, every president elected in a twenty-year cycle has died in office: Harrison, Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, Harding, and Roosevelt. Yet no president has been assassinated for almost sixty years, thanks to the expertise of the Secret Service.

I‘ve made it a point to read a book about each and everyone of our presidents. This book was highly entertaining and did not disappoint. On to Killing Patton!

Day 20 - #presidentialreads - probably the presidential book I look most forward to reading is Killing Kennedy. The Kennedys have always fascinated me, what can I say? #feistyfeb #camelot

Reviewsbylola I have read two books in the past few months that were great and I'm sure you would like them if you have a fascination with Kennedy. The first is 8y
JenlovesJT47 @Reviewsbylola awesome, thank you! Love Vince Bugliosi too 8y

Leigh0906 If you haven't read it yet, Larson's book on "the forgotten" Kennedy child, Rosemary, is very good! 8y
JenlovesJT47 @Leigh0906 thanks! It's on my list ☺️ 8y
CrowCAH Last fall I went to The Sixth Floor Museum and saw the avenue his car drove down when he was shot; interesting facts. 8y
JenlovesJT47 @CrowCAH I bet that was interesting! Still makes me sad when I think about it 😪 8y
CrowCAH @JenlovesJT47 I agree. What better way to remember him than on President's Day! 8y

#ReadJanuary #Royals I guess the Kennedy's are as close to royalty as far as the U.S. goes and nothing says family scandal quite like those Tudors 👑💍😀The Marriage Game was for bookclub and it was so good 💕📚💕

I will literally read anything to do with the Kennedys or the Kennedy assassination. Any suggestions? This book was very well researched. However you feel about Bill O'Reilly his "Killing" series are spot on

Smangela @kricheal that's how I felt about them too! I don't personally watch any political shows, but I didn't feel like he brought any personal feelings into these books which was great! 8y

This is the first audiobook I've listened to and I was really impressed! I learned so much about JFK that the history books don't tell you...the good and the bad. I love learning, but don't really enjoy reading nonfiction books...audiobooks are the perfect solution!

Mehso-so

I loved Killing Lincoln, and started reading this one immediately after reading it. That may have been a mistake. Killing Kennedy just didn't hold my attention in the same way, and that was a disappointment.

MrBook Oh maaaan, I just bought this one for $1. 8y
