bailedI'm really interested in 20th-century Russian literature and history, and there were parts of this that engaged me intellectually here and there. But ultimately, at around a third of the way in, I simply don't care about any of these characters, and find the writing/translation to be dull dull dull. I'm out of here.

How excited am I to finally be starting this today! It's 22 hours or so on audio, so it'll be a long-term commitment but I'm up for it!

I'm halfway through the Big Green Tent. Rereading I'll Give You the Sun for my teen book club. And I've started Moonglow. I figure the Laini Taylor will go fast. So this is my realistic TBR. But I don't often stick to these lists.
This book gets better and better. So glad I didn't abandon it!
So many mixed feelings! Even if I'm loving this, it's taking some serious effort for me to stay interested. Considered DNFing it, but I just can't! It's the first time a book makes me feel like this 🤔

My haphazard character list has grown to two pages at about 1/3 of the way through. I've really enjoyed settling into this big Russian novel, and look forward to the rest of the journey.

pickIt‘s finished!!! I loved this book so hard. I just felt so immersed in what the characters were doing and like I was getting a crash course in Russian history. Also, I love books about the intertwining threads of humanity. All of the dozens of characters are intertwined in one way or another...most of them do not even know that they are connected. It's a beautiful, crazy story about life, the choices we make, and so much more. #booksintranslation
I've not been reading as many books lately because I'm still working through this enormous masterpiece. I'm finally at 60%--only 200 pages to go! It's beautiful and decadent like a dessert at a fancy restaurant.
