There‘s a reason I don‘t enjoy reading plays...they were written to be performed.
Maybe the same holds true for Neil Hilborn‘s poetry. I love Button Poetry but perhaps some of the emotion was lost in translation to the page.
I give this 2.5 stars. Next up in #poetry, Pillow Thoughts.

Please don‘t buy this book. If you like him on YouTube, just watch there. I had to force myself to read the whole thing. The line breaks are for the most part completely nonsensical- making it extremely difficult to read. Its like he wrote them out the way he thought a poem should look with no true understanding of poetry. I‘m filled with regret that I bought his second book as a preorder deal before first reading this.

I liked a lot, but had trouble ‘getting‘ other poems in this collection. You have to be in the headspace and praps I‘m not right now. Loved some of the poem titles tho!

Time for some poetry today. As usual, some astound me and some I just don‘t really get. Who‘s into poetry?

I feel like Neil went viral over one of his LEAST strong poems, and that‘s saying something because “O.C.D” is a beautiful piece. But this book is full of them, and I can‘t decide if I want to go see him read live in Boston in December, or spare myself some crying in public.

little afternoon reading with Mia😊 so far, the two poems which I've known were the only ones I truly liked, the others are just okayish. Hopefully at least one more powerfull poem comes up 😊

Many of us don't think of ourselves as poetry readers - for me it was the poetry I had to read in school and uni; so much of it was inaccessible and difficult to relate to. But modern poetry is a different beast and I am enjoying the ride. A finely written poem is a blow to the heart, it's the martial art of writing. Neil Hilborn is so sharp you don't even realise you've been cut until you see the blood. #neilhilborn #litsypoetry

He's every lesson for the living and the dying, for the hurting and the hoping. He is words and phrases and sentences that I could never shape my lips to say as a life participant or spectator.
Applause for the courage to draw a second breath. Acknowledgement of the bravery it takes at times to just hold on.

Teardrops. 😥I understand being so destroyed by the loss of someone that the only way to take another breath and continue living is to turn every thought and every memory of them to vapor.
But the hope is that one morning will feel different than all the rest, and then it becomes okay to remember.

I've read a lot of this year and to me this collection is a mixed bag. There were poems that took my breath away and poems I skimmed. Luckily for me those catch my breath poems were enough to make up for some of the flops.

If you've ever had a long distance relationship, this is worth picking up.
