Stumbled on this phrase I‘d never heard before in The Nine Tailors. Apparently its origin is in the tagged book as a reference to Robespierre, and it came to mean: one utterly, disinterestedly, and rigidly devoted to some ideal or objective especially in the world of political thought or action. I wonder why it fell out of fashion?
