Used bookstore haul...liberated a few excellent books by my favorite living author (Ellen Emerson White--writing under her Nicholas Edwards pseudonym here). Now I have to haul them home via Amtrak (gotta figure out how to squeeze them into my luggage...🤔) #travelproblems

Living the Fair Oaks, California life for the last few days before I head back home to Michigan...dining on vegan food at Sunflower Drive-In (38 year old veg/vegan restaurant in my old hometown)--with a surprise local chicken as my dining companion! (This rooster loved the lettuce I dropped while eating 😂). I also hit up the excellent local used bookstore, because it isn't a trip to my old home if I don't end up hauling a few books back with me.

GlitteryOtters @DebinHawaii it is really good! It's at this little place in old town Fair Oaks, they've been selling vegan & vegetarian food exclusively there for the past 38 years! You order & eat at patio and picnic tables while being stalked by the local freely ranging chickens (they really love the lettuce and sprouts they put on the nutburgers 😂😂) 8y

GlitteryOtters @ValerieAndBooks sort of...my mom has lived here since 1985! I visited her, like, 5X a year (including most of each summer) & lived with my dad in SoCal until 93. Then I moved up here for the last part of high school & college (I went to Sac State). My stepdad (who is about to turn 70) has lived here since he was a teenager & almost all of his family lived here, which is how my mom ended up moving up here, instead of him moving down to be near us. 8y

ValerieAndBooks @GlitteryOtters small world! To think we might have crossed paths there in addition to Ann Arbor! Growing up we lived in various northern Sac suburbs such as Citrus Heights and FO. I went to Del Campo HS, attended American River College, and graduated from UCDavis! When hubby and I moved away to AA (1990) our parents were in Placer County. In-laws are still there but mine are in Eureka now. We don't go out to CA much, too $$ for a family of 5. 8y

GlitteryOtters @ValerieAndBooks oh man, it is a really small world! I went to Bella Vista (we're right around the corner from it), my stepdad graduated from Del Campo. I technically took a class at ARC (English language course my HS AP English teacher taught at Bella Vista after school) & my stepdad took some courses at Davis (he was microbiology & biochem major at Sac State & some of the courses he wanted were only at UC Davis). My mom & I alternate visits... 8y

GlitteryOtters @ValerieAndBooks ...because my stepdad has claustrophobia issues (used to demonstrate with Cesar Chavez for farm workers rights & was arrested & held in small cells which gave him bad claustrophobia, since then he cannot fly or take trains), my trips to CA are only way I can see him. I can only afford trips out because my mom saves points from her Southwest card & I earn frequent flyer points from surveys, we pool them (SMF flights are expensive!) 8y

ValerieAndBooks Ah yes I remember BV and San Juan being our rivals 😊. I was a microbiology major at UCD. Yes so true about SMF being $$. After my parents moved up to Eureka it made travel more difficult because it's so far from Sac and they don't have a major airport and how do you visit one set of parents and not another? So they come out to visit us instead. Last time I was in CA was 5 years ago 🙁 8y
