A short tale about a doll left a whole night at the beach.
Loved the atmosphere, sometimes tensed, with a touch of angst.
I also liked the ending that shades new light onto the story.
It's a book that I'm sure would be interesting to read with kids, especially to open a discussion about feeling afraid, fear of being left alone, etc. Definitely going to put it on my list of books for my nieces.

#ReadingResolutions Day 13: Few people seem to know that Ferrante wrote a children‘s book set in the #Beach. Everything in this story is reified, from the burning flames to the crashing waves to the doll‘s consciousness with the words that she clutches jealously and protectively to the center of her body so that the Mean Beach Attendant would not be able to access and steal them from her. As a #ferrantefangirl I had to pick up this short illustrated story when I saw it on Book Outlet for cheap! 🤑Nothing life-changing but if you're a fan, you'll probably want to read it 📚😊

The detritus of my #LitsyPartyofOne. I fell asleep on the floor while reading "The Beach at Night," a weird little story I was really enjoying until I dropped the book on my chest and zonked out. ?

This brief, mysterious story is about a girl's doll who gets left on the beach. It's illustrated and written simply, but I wouldn't classify it as a children's book. It's surreal and quirky, erring occasionally on the side of creepy.

Naturally I went to the library the day after a readathon. I even tortured my children by making them wait patiently and quietly (yeah, right!) while I browsed the new books section. Any recommendations of what's good here?

Don't let the small size deceive you; this is not an ordinary kid's picture book. Without giving anything away, I believe she's making a statement about violence against women, specifically when men make women say things the women don't want to say. Heavy stuff for a picture book. If you have read it and have a better idea about what it means, let's chat about it.
