The Apothecary's Curse
The Apothecary's Curse | Barbara Barnett
12 posts | 4 read | 9 to read
In Victorian London, the fates of physician Simon Bell and apothecary Gaelan Erceldoune entwine when Simon gives his wife an elixir created by Gaelan from an ancient manuscript. Meant to cure her cancer, it kills her. Suicidal, Simon swallows the remainder--only to find he cannot die. Five years later, hearing rumors of a Bedlam inmate with regenerative powers like his own, Simon is shocked to discover it's Gaelan. The two men conceal their immortality, but the only hope of reversing their condition rests with Gaelan's missing manuscript. When modern-day pharmaceutical company Transdiff Genomics unearths diaries describing the torture of Bedlam inmates, the company's scientists suspect a link between Gaelan and an unnamed inmate. Gaelan and Transdiff Genomics geneticist Anne Shawe are powerfully drawn to each other, and her family connection to his manuscript leads to a stunning revelation. Will it bring ruin or redemption? From the Trade Paperback edition.

Updating my book journal and realized I never wrote a review for this terrific book.

An apothecary and a doctor look for a long lost spell book to cure their immortality. After centuries as friends and enemies, and heroes and sort-of villains, the two finally cross paths in America looking for the book. Just shy of 5 stars, I still remember it fondly after having read it months ago.

GingerAntics Oh I really like that journal layout. That‘s nice. 5y
Texreader @GingerAntics I love it. Wished I‘d been doing it for years but only got it as a Christmas present last year. So now I know how much I love having a book journal! 5y
GingerAntics I started keeping one this year as well. I do like keeping track. 5y

Audiocleaning marathon update: I‘ve caught up dusting and mopping with my Roomba which is tackling the massive living room in this house right now. So I‘m taking a break to do some #litsyatoz and #nonfiction2019 planning.

TorieStorieS Honestly, he rarely makes it at home (poached eggs are hard!), but I know it comes in a can ... he has a meat grinder though and was talking about making it that way just the other day though! I will let you know how it turns out! 6y
Texreader @TorieStorieS oooh, I like the canned kind too 6y

I took advantage of the trip to my parents for Thanksgiving to catalog the books I‘ve loaned to Mom, some pictured here. Out in the country, she doesn‘t have access to lots of books so I️ keep her well-stocked. I️ haven‘t read most of these yet so I️ look forward to her reviews.

[DELETED] 3803335244 The Bear & the Nightingale is my fav! Book 2 comes out in Dec ❄️💙 7y
Texreader @ForeverNerdy I‘ve been wanting this one for a long time but haven‘t read it yet. I‘ve heard great things about it! So great to hear there will be a book 2. I️ can wait to read book 1 until I️ have both so I️ can go straight thru them! 7y
Karkar I like the Alex G. Scotland Yard series! 7y

Help! Husband is about to sell boxes of books to HPB! I think my secretsanta pal might like some. I've already bought all the books but hey what if I throw in some free ones? Mostly sci-fi but some alternative history and fantasy and almost all are new. If you think you might be my recipient (or if you just want to give your input), let me know what genre you'd like!

RanaElizabeth I mean, all of the above? Maybe pick one or two that you or your husband really loved, regardless of genre. 8y
drokka Ohhh Mark Haddon! Loved the first one. I'm with @RanaElizabeth just pick a sampling to throw into the mix. 8y
Kmmsellers All of those genres are fantastic! 8y

Mc_cart_ny The cover The Crossing looks intriguing! 8y
Texreader @Mc_cart_ny I looked that one up. I think I'm snagging that set myself! 8y
Texreader @Kmmsellers There were so many good ones in his boxes. I left off the hard core sci-fi from the photos though. They were scary looking. 8y
Texreader @RanaElizabeth @drokka Like that idea and that's what I decided to do. The ones I picked didn't make the photos though so there can be a little suspense 8y
julesG You should just do it. I'm sure, whoever your recipient is, they'll be over the moon. 8y
