..".exceptionally entertaining writing..." ..".George is genuinely hilarious..." ..".everything you could want in a travel memoir and more..." ..".hilarious, cringe-worthy and totally chaotic. A brilliant read..." ..".amusing, informative and heart-warming..." ..".I laughed out loud throughout..." ..".I learned more about our great US of A from this BRITISH author than I did in history class..." Two Brits, George and Mark, set off from New York City to explore the back roads of America. In this calamity-ridden travel tale, George sets out in true cliched fashion to discover the real America. Throw in plenty of run-ins with the police, rapidly dwindling finances and Josephine - the worst car in the world - and you have all the ingredients for a classic American road trip. Will George and Mark make it all the way to California? And then there is Rachel, George's girlfriend, left back in England. Would travelling to the United States without her turn out to be the stupidest decision he had ever made?"

This #DoubleSpin read was a hoot! I got to relive all my crazy cross country road trips through the hilarious experiences of 2 young guys from England and their clunker mini van named Josephine. Happily discovered this author thanks to a 99-cent Kindle deal.
Plus I finally mapped out my #BookSpinBingo goal for July.😅 And look who‘s FINALLY up next @TheAromaofBooks !

MallenNC I haven‘t read this one but I love his book Free Country 4y

MemoirsForMe @AmyK1 Cool! This will be my first-ever Wodehouse. We must compare notes when we finish. 👍🏻 4y
MemoirsForMe @TheAromaofBooks YAAAS!!!Can you believe it?!? P.G. has been wooing me for some time now. How could he NOT win my heart? 😁❤️🙌🏻 4y
MallenNC @UwannaPublishme Free Country is funny but it was also cool to see how he and his friend could do their trip using the kindness of strangers. I need to read the one from your post. 4y
MemoirsForMe @MallenNC What a great premise! I‘m adding yours to my list. 👍🏻 4y

This is a definite #BlameItOnLitsy read! In April I saw a post about this travelogue and when I saw it was free with Prime, I read the first chapter and decided to borrow it! And it‘s funny at times, but sort of devolves a bit into feeling a bit too much like you‘re reading someone else‘s diary... a lot of details on food and accommodations that drag it down. But overall a light and entertaining read! I read it on my Fire as I debate upgrading it!

A fun but forgettable travelogue. Some genuinely funny parts with sarcastic storytelling but too much fell into the ‘went from a to b to sleep at c ‘ mode for me to call this a real pick. Also it is a trip through small town America but lots of attention goes to the bigger cities. Doesn‘t make it bad just not what I thought I would be reading. Photo is my husband when we drove the Natchez Trace Parkway (we liked more than the author did!)

Another favorite book of 2018! George Mahood‘s “travelogue” about an 8 month road trip across the U.S.A. couldn‘t be more charming if it tried. So funny, so witty, so fun. And for me, as an American, it was fascinating to read about my country through a Brit‘s eyes. God love him for being so kind! I‘ve TBR‘d his entire catalogue, and I suggest you do, too. But definitely start with this endearing charmer!

Kaye Great review His books are all good and really funny. I have yet to read this and one other , but the rest have all been good. (edited) 7y
AllenTStClair @Kaye You‘re always too kind. Thank you! 7y

AllenTStClair @Christine @SG2014 More converts! Welcome! Muahahaha! 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I may wait until it hits Book Outlet. It‘s out of my allowable price range. Lol 7y
AllenTStClair @JanuarieTimewalker13 Totally understandable. My book budget is busted this month. 🤣 It‘s free on Kindle Unlimited if you‘re a subscriber, and I think only $2.99 if not. But either way, it‘s on your TBR, so you‘ll remember once it‘s within budget. 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I don‘t own a kindle. I‘m a little shocked my library doesn‘t carry this book, maybe I should request it. One way or another, I‘ll get it. I‘m just on a spending freeze right now. Been watching too many Dave Ramsey videos. Lol 7y
AllenTStClair @JanuarieTimewalker13 🤣 I don‘t doubt I‘ll go even further over the book budget between myself and the missus...but sometimes you have to treat yo‘self! 7y
Itchyfeetreader You have sold me on this - it‘s ages since I read a good travel book 7y
AllenTStClair @Itchyfeetreader Yes! Another convert! Hope you enjoy it! 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Ughhh!! My library just called me to say they couldn‘t purchase this book bc it‘s from an online publisher. Oh, well, one day I will purchase!!! 7y

Moving on to this one for next month‘s book club since my April TBR is already demolished (goooo Team Allen)!!! Only 40 pages in and I‘m absolutely smitten! 😍❤️ @MargieW I think you‘ve chosen a winner for book club!

AllenTStClair @MallenNC I‘ve TBR‘d his entire catalogue! 🤣 7y
MallenNC @AllenTStClair Good plan! I have the one you posted about still to read, but I have read a few of his others. He's a fun writer. 7y

I love travel books. George is from England and takes a year long journey through the back roads and little towns of the US. The two main characters, George and Josephine (his junker vehicle), have many adventures and mishaps. This was a delightful story and I highly recommend it!
