Pondering dinner……with temps in the mid 30s F 😩, something comforting & warm is in order. I was thinking MS Roast (❤️pepperoncini), but then I spied Mapo Ragu! I will bookmark both.

Kappadeemom I love Mississippi roast - make it all the time in my crockpot! 12mo
Tamra @Kappadeemom it‘s been a long time for us! 12mo
mabell Oooo the Mapo Ragu sounds good! 12mo

Marinated flank steak with Lime, Chile, and Basil Slaw for Sunday dinner. 😋

This vibrant slaw is in perfect contrast to the dismal wind and clouds that blew in this afternoon.

Hazel2019 Yum! 3y
KellyK Looks scrumptious! 3y
Cathythoughts Yum ! Book sounds like a good one 👍🏻 3y

Is it weird that I‘ve been waiting all week to be able to curl up with this enormous 998 page cookbook?! I love reading all the retro recipes… Shrimp Toast from 1973, Salmon Mousse from 1961, etc etc… 🍤🍸

SRWCF Fun! I, too, love retro cookbooks. 3y
readordierachel I just checked this out from the library today! I haven't had a chance to flip through it yet. Excited now 😁 3y
Kristin_Reads @readordierachel @SRWCF I knew I couldn‘t be the only one who loves these! Enjoy 3y

Texreader I enjoy reading recipes and cookbooks in general, too! (edited) 3y
Ncostell I often go down a rabbit hole Googling retro dishes when they‘re mentioned in novels set during different time periods so this book looks like fun to me! 3y
Kristin_Reads @Texreader @Ncostell Such fun! This is a great collection of recipes collected over several decades. 3y
LindaLappin an author I follow on IG , Frances Mayes, recently recommended the California Heritage Cookbook by the Junior League of Pasadena --pub date 1976, as a bible from which she learned to cook. I found an old used edition on amazon for a couple of $ and it's fabulous! uses a lot of raw eggs though, which I don't use anymore... 3y
Kristin_Reads @LindaLappin Ooh! Good to know… I‘ll have to check that out! Thank you 💗 3y

First recipe made from this tome - Apple Coffee Cake - and it‘s delicious! I made it for my husband‘s birthday tomorrow, though as you can see it‘s making a debut today. 😂

If you make this in a glass pan, bake at 350F, not 375. Also, I didn‘t layer it (why bother?) and I misread the recipe adding WAY more cinnamon, but it‘s so tasty! 😋

slategreyskies Wow, I want this cookbook! :) 3y
Ruthiella I love those happy accidents in baking! 😋 3y

Melissa Clark's Lemony Carrot and Cauliflower soup tastes like sunshine and springtime.

Audrey I love Melissa Clark's recipes. I'm making her garlic child chicken breasts with cucumbers and green ginger sauce for dinner tonight. 😀 8y

Not from the actual cookbook, but the New York Times puts together a vegan / vegetarian mini-guide every year, and I've been cooking from it for at least six years. This is a "Three Sisters" stuffed acorn squash that I'm bringing to my potluck.
