Anyone else find the continued poking at Sir Philip‘s lame poetry delightful? It makes me smile every time they talk about his rhymes and how he believes that equals poetry. I particularly like this passage when one of his ballads is to be played “it was the least elaborate, the least affected — out of comparison the best of his numerous efforts.” Damning by faint praise. 😂. #shirlitesunite

“Reader, when you behold an aspect for whose constant gloom and drown you cannot account...be sure that there is a canker somewhere, and a canker not less deeply corroding because concealed.” Love this advice - you never know someone‘s story. More than likely there is a reason that has nothing to do with you. Doing a little sunrise reading and still #waitingforshirley to appear. #shirlitesunite

#shirlitesunite Now that I‘m in the chapters about Caroline, I am starting to feel more drawn into the book. Loved the narrators observations about being 18 and this passage where Caroline is thinking about women must react differently from men.
