Tilt a Whirl
Tilt a Whirl | Chris Grabenstein
15 posts | 14 read | 14 to read
There isn't much sun in the fun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-A-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation. He is partnered with Danny Boyle, a 24-year-old part-time summer cop who doesn't carry a gun and only works with the police by day so he has enough pocket money left over to play with his beach buddies at night. In the first novel in a new series written in the spirit of Carl Hiaasen's work, the Tilt-A-Whirl murder pushes Ceepak's deep sense of honor and integrity to the limits, as unexpected twists and turns keep the truth spinning wildly in every direction.

Day 21 of #scarathlondailyprompts is missing. My kids and I have enjoyed so, so many Chris Grabenstein books. He writes for adults too. This is the first of the John Ceepak Mystery series. I‘ve read the first three and like both the John Ceepak character as well as the rookie Danny Boyle. There is a missing girl in part of the twists and turns of this plot. #TeamSlaughter #scarathlon

What a great start to this mystery series. Highly recommend. Love John Ceepak, the main character. Author draws you in right away to the book and does great character development so that you are invested in their lives as well.

Everything I was reading and listening to was just too tense or heavy, leading me into a semi-depressed state mentally so I decided to “reset!” This is something I read many years ago, so long ago that it‘s new-to-me again!

John Ceepak is a Gulf War veteran who is now a cop at a seaside resort. While he‘s enjoying breakfast, a girl runs down the street, her dress covered in blood...

Jeff Woodman narrates as the part-time cop partnered w/Ceepak

Up way past my bedtime but decided to just knock it out. Love Ceepak. Interesting that the story is told from his partner, Danny‘s, perspective. Danny gives A light balance to Ceepak‘s deep and stoic personality. The ending surprised me even though I was halfway there. I‘ll be reading more of this series and author. #dustybookshelf #ReadingChallenge #ebook #MtTBR #PikesPeak

jessijames I‘ve been putting off reading this one for a while. I‘ll have to move it up the TBR now. Thanks! 6y

Enjoying some reading and breakfast at my one of my favorite local coffee shops ☺️while I wait for my tire to be repaired/replaced. Stupid potholes, construction and screws! 🤬😡🤬

GatheringBooks aww.. too bad. you deserve that treat and more! :) 6y
MallenNC Flat tires are such an annoyance! But looks like you're making the best of things. 6y
JSW Car maintenance is one of my least fave things, but books and muffins and coffee are some of my fave. Glad you‘re using your down time wisely. 6y
Zelma Annoying but looks like a decent way to pass your time. 😉 6y

This was really pretty good - I guess you call these ‘police procedurals‘. It‘s set on the shore in New Jersey where they have an amusement park with you guessed it - a tilt a whirl! It was definitely a twisty read. 🎡🎢🎠 (only amusement park emojis I could find) #MountTBRChallenge #17

Chelleo You‘re already finished!! 😲 6y
Pamwurtzler @Chelleo It was a quick read! 6y
MicrobeMom I grew up if the Jersey Shore! I will be sure to check it out. 6y

A mystery set on the Jersey Shore. I lighter mystery than all of the psychological thrillers I've been reading. I'm a fan of Chris Grabenstein & I'm glad I came across this book. I'll definitely be reading more of his John Ceepak books.

Also listening to this on audio and laughed out loud when he said "he also gets some undercarriage rust protectant shot up his shorts." ?

Enjoying this one. Will probably finish it today. A nice light read.

I've read a few of Chris Grabenstein's kids books and have really enjoyed them. This first book in a series for adults was an #audible Daily Deal not long ago.

Started it today and so far I'm enjoying it. A lighter mystery than I've been reading lately. It's had some laugh out loud moments. 🤓

I live in the south now, but the Jersey Girl in me loves that this takes place at the Jersey Shore.

Not the kind of book I normally read. Nice change of pace. I will most likely read more books in this series.

The kids and I have enjoyed three of Grabenstein's books. I recently found out he writes for adults too! Five chapters in and happy about it. #hereforthebooks

readinginthedark I didn't know he wrote for adults either. This sounds fun! (edited) 7y

My children and I have enjoyed Granenstein's kids books immensely. Earlier today I saw he had written for adults too and stacked this immediately. We had a fun family day, but we are back home and I saw that this is just 99cents on kindle so I bought it a few minutes ago. #lastbooksstacked #laststacked #seasonsreadings2016

Graciouswarriorprincess I love his library books and he has a third one coming out in the Fall. Thanks for sharing this!😀 7y
