Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas
Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas | Tom Robbins
12 posts | 30 read | 11 to read
When the stock market crashes on the Thursday before Easter, youan ambitious, although ineffectual and not entirely ethical young brokerare convinced that youre facing the Weekend from Hell. Before the market reopens on Monday, youre going to have to scramble and scheme to cover your butt, but theres no way you can anticipate the baffling disappearance of a 300-pound psychic, the fall from grace of a born-again monkey, or the intrusion in your life of a tattooed stranger intent on blowing your mind and most of your fuses. Over these fateful three days, you will be forced to confront everything from mysterious African rituals to legendary amphibians, from tarot-card bombshells to street violence, from your own sexuality to outer space. This is, after all, a Tom Robbins noveland the author has never been in finer form. From the Trade Paperback edition.

The Fool is potentially everybody, but not everybody has the wisdom or the guts to play the fool. Subconsciously, the goal of all of us out-of-control primates is essentially the same, but let me assure you of this: the only ones who'll ever reach that #goal are the ones who have the courage to make fools of themselves along the way. #QuotsyDec18

"When the naive young Fool finally tumbles over the precipice, he falls into the world of experience...Along the way, he'll meet all the teachers and tempters - the tempters are teachers, too - and challenging situations that a person is likely to meet in the task of his or her growing. The Fool is potentially everybody, but not everybody has the wisdom or the guts to play the fool." #Teacher #QuotsyOct18 #Fool #TarotTakeover

The family keeps wondering why I am laughing out loud. The longer quotes just don't fit. Sorry. 😜

Shemac77 I love Tom Robbins. Both him and Christopher Moore make me bust out laughing. 8y
youngreadrshelf @Shemac77 it has been a while since I've read a Tom Robbins. I need to read more. What's your favorite Christopher Moore? I don't think I've read any. 8y
Shemac77 I loved Practical Demonkeeping. And Coyote Blue was awesome as well. 8y
youngreadrshelf @Shemac77 thanks. I'll look them up. (Because I need more on my #TBR shelf. 😆) 8y

My favourite place to read is on my comfy couch, so whenever I try to read in bed, this is what happens..the book reads me.

Reviewsbylola Reading in bed is what puts me to sleep every night. 😂 8y
MyNamesParadise Understandable! My bed frame can go into different positions, so if I read in my bed I have it in the incline or zero gravity position then I make the bed flat to go asleep!! If I read when the bed is flat, I can't sleep usually that night!! 8y

Enjoying a cool afternoon and the twisted workings of Tom Robbins' brain. A born-again monkey who used to be a jewel thief, a 300-pound tarot card reader who charges to listen to your vacation memories, a former lumberjack turned real estate broker, and a squeaky-voiced stock market operative -- fun!

Soubhiville This was my first Tom Robbins! It's fun and bizarre. I'm sure it doesn't surprise you to hear that! 8y
youngreadrshelf @Soubhiville no. My first was Still Life With Woodpecker. Also fun and bizarre. 8y

A gift from my sister a very long time ago, this was my first Tom Robbins. One of the strangest books I've ever read, and I loved it.

Pickpick

I can always count on Tom Robbins to write a unique story, & this book didn't fail me. It also includes the best pick up line I've ever heard, when one character sees another eating asparagus across a restaurant, "do you realize that for the next 5 hours, our urine is going to smell exactly alike?"
