Paul Fisher sees the world from behind glasses so thick he looks like a bug-eyed alien. But hes not so blind that he cant see there are some very unusual things about his familys new home in Tangerine County, Florida. Where else does a sinkhole swallow the local school, fire burn underground for years, and lightning strike at the same time every day? The chaos is compounded by constant harassment from his footballstar brother, and adjusting to life in Tangerine isnt easy for Pauluntil he joins the soccer team at his middle school. With the help of his new teammates, Paul begins to discover what lies beneath the surface of his strange new hometown. And he also gains the courage to face up to some secrets his family has been keeping from him for far too long. In Tangerine, it seems, anything is possible.

This was my second time teaching this book, and I was glad to see how much my 8th graders enjoyed it.

Even though I'm not a sports fan and I know nothing about soccer, I've loved this book since I was about 10, and reread it every few years. I read it with my 8th graders this year and was glad to see they enjoyed it just as much as I do.

LibrarianRyan This book is so crazy. I read it paired with an 8th grader a few years ago and I was just WHATTT. The sink holes, the divided school day, and the paint!!!! OMG this book is good. 4y

Liked this a lot but did not feel like it quite lived up to the hype. The author seemed to shove as many social issues into a novel as possible and didn‘t always give them the due diligence they deserved. Still glad I read it and will be putting it in my classroom. Also, this is on my floor because where I am quarantining I have no desk 😂😂😂 #teachersoflitsy

#OrangeBooks I love, with a special shoutout for Tangerine. It‘s a YA masterpiece that doesn‘t get as much love as it should. #fallintoreading

Tangerine is a great book young adult fiction about a boy named Paul Fisher who moves to Tangerine County Florida. A kid who has a dream of playing soccer but is put down because his dad only supports his football playing older brother.

How do I not own any books with "summer" in the title?! Well, I guess for #SummerReads I'll use a book that takes place in Florida, where it's basically always summer. #Riotgrams

I had to read this book for school and I could not for the life of me get into it, I wanted to but I couldn't. The story like was okay but just the way it was written maybe?

One of my favorite YA novels of all time. This book is often billed as a sports book, but sports take a back seat to race, class, family dynamics, and self discovery as themes. It's dark and well written, with skillful use of imagery.
