I have read and enjoyed Klosterman in the past, so when I saw he was writing a book about the 90s I was thrilled. I don‘t know if it is the current climate or just me changing, but this book feels like the author is creating a series of elongated tweets, inserting as many SAT words as possible making fun of the public figures responsible for our entertainment. What I was hoping would be a fun journey back was like reading a rant on social media.
Thanks to Netgalley for the copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Wow! This book has so many qualities that I love in a novel: long sweeping timeline, beloved supporting characters, interesting setting and history embedded in the story. I did find Violeta to be insufferable at times, particularly in her motherhood choices, which made me frustrated as a reader, but ultimately made the story seem realistic and more interesting.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed all of the art in this book! It was fun to learn about Angelica, a model for many sculptures around NYC based upon an real person. It was also interesting to learn about the Frick family and their legacy in the art world, and wild dysfunction. I‘ll say that the characters Veronica and Joshua in the 60s we‘re sort of underdeveloped for me.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a behind the scenes look into the French ballet world, some things I felt got lost in translation but overall an interesting book
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I wouldn‘t say I “enjoyed” this one but it was suspenseful and well written and kept me entertained!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ this was a heartwarming lovely book. Loved all of the art and the love for Florence. It was a little unbelievable at times but still a happy nice story
⭐️⭐️ I love Liane Moriarty books usually so I was surprised with this one. Just too ridiculous for me 🤷🏼♀️
This campy book was a fun mixture of single white female and desperate housewives behaving horribly with outrageous consequences
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ As a horror movie fan, I absolutely loved this book! It has a little “The Secret History” vibes in a YA style. Great for fans of horror and mysteries!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ such a nice cute story with a lot of my favorite things: Books and Team Trivia
All the stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love the story of Lara Jean! You could tell the authors heart wasn‘t in writing another story about her, but I still liked it anyway
I really enjoyed this book, major TW that the author gives on the first page. Very nostalgic for me as it is about a pop group in the early 2000s ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We rented a house boat for two days to celebrate our one year anniversary! 💝 haven‘t felt this relaxed since January 😂
I LOVED the first half!!! It was so creepy and reminded me of Wuthering Heights or Rebecca which I LOvED! The second half with the reveal was not for me, too magical and icky. Definitely glad I read it though
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I Loved this incredible set of short stories, I hope she continues to write short stories because she is incredible
Love this saga so much! Was not as good as the first two, but I can tell is gearing up for the final installment!
I loved this book. This multigenerational, decades spanning book is so artfully crafted with its irrevocable choices that affect characters differently and permanently. Systemic racism is another main character in this book, sending characters on widely divulging paths. So many different layers and plots and complicated emotions in this family‘s story. An incredible novel. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
