Set to have a vacation away from her home life and the tax man, Julia takes a trip with her art-loving boyfriend. However, all is not what it seems. Oxford Don Hilary Tamar is a new favorite character I‘d love to meet! She‘s quick, witty and per the author, “[an] individual who starts being elderly at the age of twenty-two” 🤣 I loved her, her fellow barristers (though I did keep reading Cantrip‘s name as ‘Catnip‘, which I like to think Caudwell did on purpose LOL). I‘m jumping right into the next book, “The Shortest Way to Hades” 🤩

Saturday night book and bed club commences! I‘m almost 70 pages into this delightful book, any British humor (or should I say ‘humour‘) fans will love it! I picture the characters as a mix from ‘Fawlty Towers‘, ‘Have you been Served?‘ and ‘Defending the Guilty‘ 😂

batsy I adore this series! 4mo
Aims42 @batsy I‘m so glad I ordered the second book when I got the first, I‘ll definitely be diving into it when I finish this one 😅 4mo

#BelovedCrimeSeries I'm sad that Sarah Caudwell passed on before she could write more of these deliciously clever and witty books, but it's helpful that there's only four in the series. It's one of the few series I've managed to complete. If you like crisp British humour, irreverent narrators, antics, jollity, & satisfying mysteries, these are for you. I'll let Jo Walton explain why it's great https://goo.gl/XzGkMm

These are some of the best mysteries I've read, and just hands-down some of the most wonderful books I've read. These are #WellLovedReads indeed. I'm sorry that this pic doesn't show off those fun Gorey covers, this isn't the best lighting. #riotgrams @bookriot #WhodunnitWednesday

An excellent cosy crime with a lively satirical tone. Written in the 80's and featuring a group of junior barristers at Lincoln Inn and their mentor Professor Tamar. Hugely enjoyable, for fans of Wodehouse, Edmund Crispen and Rumpole of the Bailey.

SharonSmith I also thought it was good - had intended to read another in the series, but just plain forgot... 7y
