The Unknown Universe: A New Exploration of Time, Space, and Modern Cosmology
The Unknown Universe: A New Exploration of Time, Space, and Modern Cosmology | Stuart Clark
7 posts | 2 read | 10 to read
A groundbreaking guide to the universe and how our latest deep-space discoveries are forcing us to revisit what we knowand what we don't. On March 21, 2013, the European Space Agency released a map of the afterglow of the Big Bang. Taking in 440 sextillion kilometres of space and 13.8 billion years of time, it is physically impossible to make a better map: we will never see the early universe in more detail. On the one hand, such a view is the apotheosis of modern cosmology, on the other, it threatens to undermine almost everything we hold cosmologically sacrosanct. The map contains anomalies that challenge our understanding of the universe. It will force us to revisit what is known and what is unknown, to construct a new model of our universe. This is the first book to address what will be an epoch-defining scientific paradigm shift. Stuart Clark will ask if Newton's famous laws of gravity need to be rewritten; if dark matter and dark energy are just celestial phantoms? Can we ever know what happened before the Big Bang? Whats at the bottom of a black hole? Are there universes beyond our own? Does time exist? Are the once immutable laws of physics changing?

This is 80% a history book stretching back all the way to Galileo. I was hoping to learn a lot of new updated theories that would help me understand Blake Crouch novels 😂, but instead only about 10% of the information is from the 21st century.

I think I would‘ve enjoyed this more if I had known this was a history book rather than a “new exploration”. It was enjoyable and informative, if a bit redundant. Good narration from Stephen Hoy. 3.5⭐️ ⬇️

Cinfhen Ha!!! Yay for #BookSpin 😉👍🏻❣️ 4y

TheAromaofBooks Glad you enjoyed it, even if it wasn't exactly what you were expecting!! 4y
Megabooks @TheAromaofBooks that‘s it exactly! Thank you for running such a fun event! 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Great job! Too bad on the Crouch explanations ... 😰 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraTheBibliophage thanks! The author kept touching on the multiverse and M theory but seemed reluctant to get into anything that was that unconfirmed experimentally. 4y

This is not the book cover, but it is some fan art I found on Pinterest that I adore. The book was good. A bit more history and current unknowns. One part that really had me scratching my head was the fact that we are teaching scientific theory as fact, when we are discovering things that might disprove these theories. The last three chapters were my favorites. Good overall.

Started listening to this today while I spring clean. It's pretty scientific, and mostly over my head, but I feel smarter just listening.
