Once Upon A Time: Regina Rising
Once Upon A Time: Regina Rising: Regina Rising | Wendy Toliver
Sixteen-year-old Regina is very different from the Regina known by fans of ABC's "Once Upon a Time." She seeks romance, adventure, and approval. Of course, getting approval from a mother like Cora is next to impossible. For Regina, friendships have always been a rare commodity. Could it be that Regina has finally found a true friend? Or is it too good to be true? As Regina struggles to find her own identity and create her own destiny, she discovers that her fate might just be to become everything she despises.

I was quite impressed by the counterpart to this one, Red's Untold Tale, so I'm hoping to be equally so with this one. I LOVE fairytale retellings!!

Mehso-so

I was disappointed in this book, especially since I loved Toliver's take on Red's past. Regina did not feel real to me, and rather than seeing her actual love (Daniel), there is a random, rushed love interest. Cora was believable, and while Regina's actions at the very end felt somewhat like her, the book overall was boring. It took me over a month to read because it felt like all source material had been ignored. Okay, but not highly recommended.

So far, this is...pretty awful, honestly. It feels like no one involved with it ever even watched the show, or knows anything about the characters. #reginarising #onceuponatime #wendytoliver

korithebookdragon I agree, I am about halfway done and a little disappointed. I wanted to see Daniel, and Regina doesn't feel like the Regina I know from the show. 7y
actualdisneyprincess @korithebookdragon it's true! Like, I'm all for giving more backstory, but make it obvious that this is the girl who grows up to be our Regina! There were a few flickers, but overall, it just felt wrong. 😒 7y
korithebookdragon @actualdisneyprincess yes! She seems too innocent/nice. It just does not feel genuine to me at all. Did you read Red's story? I enjoyed that one. 7y
actualdisneyprincess @korithebookdragon it wasn't even that she was innocent/nice, because I feel like we do get that in "The Stable Boy." She just...I don't know, she didn't feel clever enough to me? There was just something inherently Regina that was missing, I don't know!! I haven't, but when I get through some of my massive TBR pile, I probably will! :) 7y

The show basically lost me awhile ago - if it hadn't been for the chemistry between Jen and Colin, I wouldn't have watched beyond S4 - but I still love the original batch of characters; Regina's one that I wished the show would have treated better than it did, but Lana has always been STELLAR. #onceuponatime #reginarising #wendytoliver #easyread

Loving this so far. Interesting to see the life of a young Regina and how it ties into the tv series.
