If this is how the series begins, I can‘t wait to read the rest. DI Callanach is a very interesting character. Born in Scotland but raised in France, his French accent (very sexy 😊) takes all of his co-workers off guard and the Scottish accent is difficult to understand. A psychopath kidnaps women, doing unspeakable things and DI Callanach and his team race against time to rescue them. #SeriesLove2023 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView

“On a remote Highland mountain, the body of Elaine Buxton is burning. All that will be left to identify the respected lawyer are her teeth and a fragment of clothing.

In the concealed back room of a house in Edinburgh, the real Elaine Buxton screams into the darkness…”

deeannloso @MittenGirlPeach I‘m glad you like them! I‘m listening to the audiobooks so the narrator does the French accent, which I absolutely love. 😍 11mo

Two series I haven‘t read, but both sound really good! I am clearly afraid of running out of series 🤣🤣🤣 It does surprise me though how many new great ones I keep on finding. At some point I thought it wouldn‘t be possible to find new favourite series. Oh how wrong I was!

Andrew65 I think they are limitless, it certainly appears that way. 2y

I loved DI Callanach as a main character but the story was just abit too gruesome 😔 Will give book number two a try, hoping for less gore.

Got some reading done yesterday, but work has been kicking my butt! I was so close to finishing Perfect Remains last night, but I was so exhausted that I just couldn't stay awake.

Honestly thought this series wasn‘t to my liking as I usually enjoy the detective, procedural aspects of crime/detective novels. I enjoyed book one but didn‘t anticipate reading anymore of the series due to the graphic details from victim‘ point of view. But then I found I‘d listened to all 6 in the series in two weeks!!!

“Perfect Remains” is a great start to the D.I. Callanach series by Helen Fields. I really enjoyed the narration in this audiobook and the crime story kept me gripped too. This was a 4 star read for me, not quite perfect, but very good!

This was a really good book and the first in a series featuring Luc and Ava. I love this sort of story and although the reader knew the identity of the murder there were still a couple of good twists to the tale. The plot itself was steady and built well to a very dramatic finish. The ending was really good and left me wanting more stories featuring these two. #Netgalley 4*

Loved this book. Not just because my gorgeous 🐻 picked it but because it's set in Edinburgh and the amazing storyline. The characters were well thought out and I could empathise well with them. Read this book it's amazing!

The first in what I think will become one of my favourite series of crime/police books! Set in Edinburgh it follows the story of French/Scottish DI Callanach as he tries to prove himself in his new team. Very much sets the scene and builds the characters and their relationships and I look forward to seeing what happens to them in coming books. Really enjoyed the story and can‘t wait to read more in this series.

#2018Book51
The characters in this story are well-developed and (mostly) behave in a realistic manner. The killer is super psychotic, which is my favorite kind of fictional killer. The only thing that bothered me is that about halfway through, this book suddenly takes an unexpected turn that's pretty much an extremely anti-Catholicism rant. It wasn't necessary to the plot of the story and did nothing more than just distract from the main plot.

I loved the balance between the criminal and the police in this procedural. I thought it was well balanced and the clues were easier to follow. Read my 5-star review of Perfect Remains by Helen Sarah Fields

Helen Fields's debut crime thriller (the first in a series) is a well-paced if disturbingly violent and gruesome affair with a convincingly chilling antagonist and a refreshingly normal female lead character, but it's let down by some stilted dialogue, a main character with a background I struggled to believe, an overblown ending and an obvious push for eventual romance between the two leads, which I don't think added much.
