Art of American Book Covers: 1875-1930
Art of American Book Covers: 1875-1930 | Richard Minsky
11 posts | 6 to read
At the turn of the nineteenth century, book covers were revered as works of art. Publishers commissioned distinguished artists such as Maxfield Parrish and Rockwell Kent to create exquisite covers appreciated by authors and readers alike. The Art of American Book Covers is an entertaining and educational retrospective, lavishly illustrated with more than one hundred full-color plates.

Sometimes it‘s impossible not to judge a book by its cover! I love artistic covers and I‘m especially happy when the story inside lives up to the enticing cover! Let me share 5 of my favorites with you: https://youtu.be/XpPDkqCbP5A

EadieB @Butterflyamore I don‘t look at book covers much as I do read lots of thrillers. I basically look at author names but i have read the Diane Sutterfield and Neil Gaiman book and enjoyed them. (edited) 5y

#7covers7days #covercrush (Day 6 - catch up from missing Friday)

Great book if you are interested in early cover art. Post covers you love for 7 days, no explanations needed. If you haven‘t been tagged yet, consider yourself tagged!

Palimpsest 😮 would love to look through this book. 5y
CoffeeCatsBooks @Palimpsest There are so many beautiful books shown and I want them all 😂 5y

TODAY'S PROMPT: FAVORITE COVERS

I am going with more than one cover and a photo I used in another post.

These covers are so pretty, though, seeing them again should be fun.

LOVED both books too.

Bookish put out a list of the top book covers of 2017... How do you not judge a book by its cover when these are all so lovely??? What do my fellow littens think of the list?
https://www.bookish.com/articles/best-book-covers-of-2017

laurieluna I liked the cover of The Night Ocean so much from this list I looked it up and its now on my TBR. Some of the others are a bit average, and I think the UK cover of The Book of Dust is prettier than the one listed here. 7y
claffy_reads @miralunasbooknook I'm always curious what that other covers are, I feel like the UK always gets better covers than we do! 7y
Cortg They‘re all so unique and gorgeous. I wonder what a career in book cover art would be like? 7y

Christine11 We do get some lovely covers here in the UK 🇬🇧 The cover is always a factor for me when choosing books - I love when it‘s unusual or pretty ! The cover of My Absolute Darling is gorgeous ! 7y
Kendra.Diane These are beautiful! I‘m certainly a culprit of judging a book by it‘s cover 🙈 7y
TricksyTails I feel like the UK gets the best covers, too! I'm kind of loving that Mighty Moby one. Pandora and Don't Blink are adorable! The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding is also gorgeous! So many good ones. Borne is stunning. 7y

I don't care for any of this publisher's (Plume) covers for August Wilson's Century Cycle installments. They've published several; and they're all styled in this fashion. I think a Pulitzer title/author deserves more consideration.

Donna_sBookMinute And yes. I'm lusting for this title 😍 8y

Some may be surprised at this choice for #BadCoverGoodBook. The profile of Nadia Turner stands out; but the abstract design just doesn't coincide with the tone of the story. I'm looking forward to a new cover in future editions. #AprilBookShowers

LauraBeth I don't like this cover either! 8y

I checked this book out from the library in part because of @Redwritinghood post about his newer book. Beautiful covers. Lots of gold foil. His peacock feather covers are very striking. This one appeals to me because I'm trying to spend more time with the trees.

Redwritinghood That looks beautiful! I may need a copy of that one too. 😉 8y
