Diving into this book! I‘ve been in a bit of a slump after my book binge last month. I read far too much too fast and then had a hard time deciding what to start next. I finally settled on this and I‘m enjoying it so far!

I loved this fantasy fairytale which was beautiful and sparkling and dark and gory all at once. The plot was a little sketchy at times but the lush writing made up for it. #Klaus is helping me with my sadness at my beloved cat and reading buddy Elvis disappearing last week. He always preferred the outdoors so he did it “his way,” like Sinatra, but my heart hurts. Still hoping he might turn up. And keeping Klaus inside! #missingelvis #catsoflitsy

BookNAround I‘m sorry Elvis has gone awol and I hope he turns back up for you! 1w
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I hope he returns! Maybe after he‘s had his fun he‘ll return. 1w
Soubhiville I hope Elvis comes home soon 😢 1w

Found this on the library of the Celebrity Infinity! A dark retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses. I wasn‘t super familiar with the original fairy tale, but I still enjoyed this story. A sprinkling of creepy moments and madness.

Well ... that went grimdark super fast!! The writing is excellent, but I can‘t help but feel a strong disconnection between the palatially bright first half versus the creature suspense of the second half. It was like entering Wonderland but without the White Rabbit to lead you there! Still a solid debut.

I read Erin A. Craig's House of Salt and Sorrows for my #buddyread with the #bookishladiesclub, and I really enjoyed the experience! The novel, based on the fairytale "The Twelve Dancing Princesses," spins a gorgeous fantasy world centered on an island. The island society's gods and belief system focus on the ocean, and they maintain customs distinctly separate from the mainland ⬇️

UnabridgedPod (for example, the monarchy passes to the eldest child, regardless of gender). There are the tropes you'd expect from a YA fantasy novel--a love triangle, some descriptions of clothing, and lots of glamour--but Craig does a great job twisting those tropes in intentional and unexpected ways.⠀⬇️ 2w
UnabridgedPod Reading the book in pieces (usually, I power through books quickly) reinforced for me a consideration of my reactions: early on, I thought the book was fairly superficial, but as I moved through each of the four sections, I became aware of the nuance of the story, of Craig's commentary on wealth and gender and belief, and of the role of monarchy. 2w

Last night I was forced to go to bed at 11 pm with 33 minutes left of reading in this book. I waited all day to get home to finish it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love a Beauty and the Beast retelling, but this was by far my favorite one. I know it‘s supposed to be a series, but I don‘t think I need it to be one. I loved this just the way it was.
