Gameboard of the Gods
Gameboard of the Gods: Age of X #1 | Richelle Mead
15 posts | 50 read | 15 to read
Gameboard of the Gods is the first thrilling instalment in the Age of X series from New York Times bestselling author, Richelle Mead In a futuristic world nearly destroyed by religious extremists, Justin March lives in exile. But Justin is given a second chance when Mae Koskinen comes to bring him back to the Republic of United North America. Raised in an aristocratic caste, Mae is now a member of the military's most elite and terrifying tier, a soldier with enhanced reflexes and skills. Justin and Mae are assigned to work together to solve a string of ritualistic murders and soon realize that their discoveries have exposed them to terrible danger. As their investigation races forward, unknown enemies and powers greater than they can imagine are gathering in the shadows, ready to reclaim the world in which humans are merely game pieces on their board. The Age of X is a brand new fantasy series containing all the mythological intrigue and relentless action of the bestselling Vampire Academy and Bloodlines YA series, and is sure to delight fans of Chloe Neill and Jim Butcher. Praise for Richelle Mead: 'The book is fast-paced and suspenseful' Booklist 'An engaging read, with an unusually tangible, believable, living story world, featuring a protagonist of unexpected depth and sympathy' Jim Butcher (on Succubus Blues) Richelle Mead, the New York Times bestselling author of Vampire Academy, lives in Seattle, Washington with her husband and baby. Gameboard of the Gods is the first in the Age of X series and Richelle's first adult novel.

This was a fun read, although the author does a horrible job with why her “brilliant” religions expert character couldn‘t figure out something very basic. I‘m mad that the series appears to be forever unfinished.
In a world where gods & genetic modification are banned, and caste & race are regulated, an expert and a super soldier must race to solve murders.
4/5 interesting book with hints of Sherlock Holmes and paranoia surrounding governments.

PageShifter Hmm, looks and even sounds intriguing. What a shame if it will be forever unfinished :/ 1y
iread2much @PageShifter yes! I am hopeful that maybe the author will finish it someday, but at least this book doesn‘t end on a cliffhanger. I‘ve read that the 2nd book does, and there is no third and final book. 😔 1y

I'm joing @monalyisha on her #booktrade adventure. Let me know if you're interested in any of the books in my #bookstack , and post your own stack to play along! (Check out @monalyisha posts for more info.)

I have plenty of books to #unhaul 🙈, but I'll start with this stack and see how it goes. Edited to add: I live in the United States.

Birdsong28 I also have some books to get rid of. If you are interested look at my profile page for more details. 😀📚📖 3y

I accidentally walked into a library sale! We had to go to a different library than usual and apparently every Friday in the summer they have a different genre book sale! And it just so happened to be the sci-fi, fantasy, Mystery, romance and YA day!

$5 to fill a paper bag! Of course none of these books were on my TBR!

It wasn‘t the best library sale that I‘ve been to, but I‘m pretty happy with my haul.

TheSpineView Love library sales! Looks like you scored! 5y
DivineDiana It‘s always a good thing to support the Library! 👍🏻 5y

I really enjoyed this book. This was my first Richelle Mead read and I loved her writing, plot, and characters. I hope the next book is as good as this one.

I think somewhere in the mess of this book, there was a good story. It was a bit all over the place though and I kept getting lost, not in a good way. I don't know if I'll bother with the next book in the series.

I was at Barnes and Noble yesterday and picked this up. I've never heard of this before so this will be interesting. I'm already intrigued by the summary inside.

I'm loving this book so far! Interesting world and enough unanswered questions about characters I care for to make me want to keep reading...

I really enjoyed this story, despite some of its flaws and an audiobook reader that I wasn't particularly fond of. I can only imagine that had I actually read this book, I would've liked it even more. Super soldiers, cults, a futuristic society which closely monitors and polices religious groups are some of the things you'll encounter with this book. I'll be reading the next one for sure. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ of 5

StephTKO Ooh... Let me know what you think. I loved Vampire Academy and the spin-off series. 8y
AlexandraGriffin @StephTKO I really like it! The audiobook reader is ok, but her voice doesn't fit the story imo, but besides that I really like the story. I think had I actually read it, I would've loved it even more. Feels very different from VA. (I couldn't get into bloodlines, i only read the first hoping for more dimitri and rose) 8y
StephTKO @GriffinAndHerBooks lol, I was not team Dimitri so I really enjoyed Bloodlines. But the story for a little old in the later books. 8y

Things I should be doing: cleaning house & working towards deadlines. What will I be doing: enjoying this book that I was excited to find on sale. I enjoy Richelle Mead's books, especially when I'm looking for good characters & escapism. I've been meaning to read this one for a while.

I remember liking it when it first came out, but I didn't read sequel for some reason. I will read anything by Richelle Mead though. I love her.
