July #BookSpin done! @TheAromaofBooks

Finally! It took me way too long to finish this. Not the book's fault, I kept having to set it aside for other things. Although I'm sure I need to reread it in order to really appreciate everything going on. Anyway, I did enjoy it.

llwheeler And that means I'm caught up on #BookSpin picks 🎉 still have a few #doublespin picks unread that I may or may not get to, though 4y
MicheleinPhilly Your photo and caption just confused the heck out of me. I was like, “July? And there‘s snow? Isn‘t tomorrow Thanksgiving?” I need a nap. 4y
llwheeler @MicheleinPhilly lol! Sorry. The picture is from just the other day! 4y

TheAromaofBooks I think the combination of July, snow, and Thanksgiving really encapsulates the weirdness of the year! 😂 @MicheleinPhilly 4y
Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira Wasn‘t that one for #readcanada also? Cute pic ❣️ 4y
llwheeler @Josee.a.lu.lit.et.lira haha you remember better than I do! Thanks for reminding me 😅 I totally forgot, yes, Québec for #ReadCanada! 4y
Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira It‘s because we had discussed it wayback when. Since she‘s from my neck of the wood, I remembered 😉 (edited) 4y

When my mom was downsizing a few years ago, sorting her books we found multiple copies of Kamouraska. I kept what I thought was the best looking copy and we donated the others. Now that I'm actually reading it... Either I vastly misjudged, or the other copies were *really* in rough shape.

I think this one is destined for crafting supplies once I finish it...

Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira I‘m curious, why would your mother have several copies of that book? Are you reading it for #ReadCanada? Happy crafting 😊 (edited) 4y
llwheeler @Josee.a.lu.lit.et.lira a variety of reasons... I come by my book loving and book collecting honestly lol. she loves CanLit so an English copy was probably for her to read, and she always tried to have lots of French books in the house since both my parents wanted us to be bilingual but they're anglophone. French books could be hard to find or expensive, so we tended to just grab ones we saw at used book sales etc so prob forgot it was a double 4y
llwheeler @Josee.a.lu.lit.et.lira and yes, I'm using it for Québec #ReadCanada 4y

It's quite highly-strung, but the writing is beautiful.

This Canlit classic is based on a real love triangle murder that took place in Quebec in 1840. I bought it for #litsyclassicsatoz but haven't got around to reading it yet. Someday!

Tamra Oh, intriguing! 6y

LeahBergen I have it and haven‘t got around to it yet either. 😆 6y

TrishB Great cover 👍🏻 6y
writerlibrarian There is a wonderful movie made with a very young Genevieve Bujold. 6y
merelybookish @writerlibrarian Cool! I wonder if there is an English version. 6y
merelybookish @TrishB It is a sleigh... I think. 🙂 6y
merelybookish @LeahBergen I want to read it. Maybe over the holidays. 6y
merelybookish @Tamra @Cinfhen Yes! I'll let you know how it is, when I finally read it. 🙂 6y

I ordered this book -- a Canadian classic -- for letter K of the #LitsyClassicsAtoZ. Inside was the card. It was a complimentary copy sent to the school librarian. Like an old-school ARC. Kind of fun. ☺️

emilyhaldi Old school ARC- love it! 7y
LeahBergen I‘ve found a couple of these in old books and I love them! (and this is on my TBR, too) 7y
merelybookish @LeahBergen I haven't read much Quebecoise lit and this was on a CBC list last year for Canada 150. So I decided to give it a go. ☺️ 7y

1. Ontario
2. A tweep who was already a litten (don't remember who) asked who else on twitter was here too. Had to wait a while until there was an Android app.
3. A recent comment by @LeahBergen reminded me of it: Kamouraska (Claude Jutra, 1973), based on the Anne Hébert book of the same name.
4. Nope.
Thanks @saguarosally and #welcomelitten

And another one found on my book shop today. @shawnmooney , have you read this? How about you, @Lindy ?

tricours I've read it! It was a bit slow and dense, but good. 8y
LeahBergen @tricours Oh, good to hear! 8y
shawnmooney I have not! And do I ever love that cover illustration! I must do something about my serious reading deficit vis-à-vis Quebec lit! 8y

LeahBergen @shawnmooney Me, too. Another one that I bought and have been meaning to read is 8y
LeahBergen @shawnmooney Have you read that one? 8y
Lindy @LeahBergen @shawnmooney I have read others by Anne Hebert but not this one. I did see the movie version of Kamouraska a long time ago. 8y
shawnmooney @LeahBergen @Lindy I have not read any Tremblay either, although I did have one of his gay-themed novels sitting on my shelf for a decade or more! :-) I don't believe I've read any Quebecois literature, period. 8y
Shemac77 So good! 8y
tournevis @shawnmooney Even bad Anne Hébert is good. Kamouraska is intentionally slow. She did it to show the oppressive nature of the house, the marriage, winter. So good. 8y
tournevis @shawnmooney Go read it room 8y
LeahBergen @shawnmooney @Lindy I really need to up my Québécois Lit game. It's pretty pathetic, really. 8y
LeahBergen @Shemac77 Oh, good! 👍🏼 8y
LeahBergen @tournevis You are making me want to move it up the TBR. 👍🏼 8y
LeahBergen @vivastory Oh, now I will have to check it out! 8y
rubyslippersreads This cover makes me think of Anne of Green Gables. (Most likely the new Netflix series, not the "traditional" Anne. ?) 8y
LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads And would that be a bearded and booted Gilbert? 😂 8y
rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen In this new version of Anne, nothing would surprise me. 😄 8y
LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads I haven't brought myself to watch it yet! 😬 8y

This is rural Québec in all it's beautiful landscape and dangerous isolation. Hébert wrote a tragic portrait of a doomed love. It's been in my TBR pile for years. The film has a very young Geneviève Bujold. #ruralsetting #aprilbookshowers

LeahBergen I want to read this! 8y
