At forty-one, Juanita Lewis is running away from home, courtesy of a one-way ticket to Montana, a place that seems about as far away from the violence and poverty of the Columbus, Ohio, projects as the moon. She wants adventure and excitementif such things exist for a pre-menopausal African American woman with three grown, deadbeat children. Juanitas new life in Paper Moon, Montana, begins at a local diner where a culinary face-off with chef and owner Jess Gardiner finds Juanita in front of Jesss stove serving up home cookin that lures the townsfolk like a magic spell. And suddenly Juanita, who was just passin through, now has a job by popular demand. Out here in this wide-open space, Juanitas heart can no longer hide, especially when she sees herself through the eyes of the wonderful and eccentric people of this down-to-earth town. Shes happy in Paper Moon; shes found a home, but can she stay? And then theres Jess. She has always dreamed of romance, but she never planned on falling in love. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Dancing on the Edge of the Roof is such a great book. I was looking through my books on goodreads to see if any had a low amount of ratings. This one has less than 500! There is also a movie on Netflix called Juanita, which is based on this book. #day3 #30junebooks #underrated

SW-T Loved the book, liked the movie. Definitely underrated! 5y
LiterarySloth @SW-T there was a lot in the book that I wish would have been in the movie but I think they did a good job. Definitely enjoyed the book more though, as is usually the case lol 5y

A sort of backward discovery: found a feel good indie movie on Netflix starring Alfre Woodard (l‘m a fan) titled Juanita. saw in the credits that it was based on the tagged book so will have to read it now! Juanita leaves Columbus, Ohio on a journey to find herself and it‘s a sweet and hopeful story. Just the thing to put a smile on your face.

Juanita (the movie title based on the tagged SJW book) was released on Netflix this past Friday!!!! How did I miss this!!!!! I‘m so mad I‘m just now seeing this because I‘m so tired and need to go to bed but I want to turn the tv back on and watch Immediately

@cocomass This is one of the books you received!

TK421 The preview for the movie looks great! I'll have to watch it and then read the book to see what I like better. 6y

Chelleo @TK421 I haven‘t read the book in years (but plan to reread after I buy another copy). The movie was ok, I spent most of it trying to remember details from the book. Alfrie as Juanita was distracting because she wasn‘t who I pictured...problem is, I‘ve been wracking my brain to think of a better choice. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Blair Underwood was funny and I liked the Adam Beach casting. 6y
cocomass Well now I‘m really excited to read it!!! I love comparing books to other media, even though 90% of the time I prefer the book 🤷🏽‍♀️ 6y
Chelleo @cocomass I enjoyed the book much more. The casting was off. And it‘s been awhile since I read it so details are fuzzy. 6y

Another book to movie adaptation. The author is currently working on a libretto for her local opera house. I hope the adaptation brings attention to her fiction work. I‘ve really enjoyed her books.

I loved this book so much. I rest hope the movie on Netflix does it justice! It‘s so well written. Juanita is just a woman who wants to start over with a new life in a random small town. She ends up becoming a beloved member of a small community and discovers herself. I can‘t tell you how many times I‘ve wanted to do that. This book makes it look tempting!

I‘ve been having a hard time getting into Tracks so I‘m setting it aside for now. This book is getting its own Netflix movie called Juanita. It‘s about a woman wanting to escape her life and start somewhere new in a different part of the country.

After reading @Chelleo 's post the other day I got this on audio since it was 50% off. Started it yesterday and I'm loving it!! I had never heard of this before! #blameitonlitsy ❤️

Chelleo Awesome! This made my day! I'm a huge fan of her books and loved Juanita's story (there are 2? more in the set I think...it's been awhile and my memory is fuzzy). So glad you're enjoying it. Now we can see if they do right by the book with the upcoming movie. 8y
Prairiegirl_reading Yes thank you!!! 😄I can't wait to see the movie! I'm also excited to hear there is more to the story. I love Juanita!! 8y
Prairiegirl_reading @Chelleo I forgot to tag you earlier. I'm so excited that this is a series!! ❤️ 8y
Chelleo @Prairiegirl_reading there is one more book: On the Right Side of a Dream. Sheila Williams also has 2 additional books, unrelated, that are also very good: The Shade of my Own Tree and Girls Most Likely. 8y

I'm SO excited that one of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors is being made into a movie!!! "Alfre Woodard co-stars in the project, which is based on the novel “Dancing on the Edge of the Roof” by Sheila Williams. The title character is a nurse‘s aide, mother and grandmother, who breaks free of her exhaustive life caring for others and sets out on an adventure."

RealBooks4ever This sounds like a great story! 👍🏼 8y
Chelleo @RealBooks4ever Juanita is a hoot!! 8y
