Dead Souls: A Gripping Serial Killer Thriller with a Shocking Twist | Angela Marsons
10 posts | 12 read | 8 to read
The truth was dead and buried...until now. When a collection of human bones is unearthed during a routine archaeological dig, a Black Country field suddenly becomes a complex crime scene for Detective Kim Stone. As the bones are sorted, it becomes clear that the grave contains more than one victim. The bodies hint at unimaginable horror, bearing the markings of bullet holes and animal traps. Forced to work alongside Detective Travis, with whom she shares a troubled past, Kim begins to uncover a dark secretive relationship between the families who own the land in which the bodies were found. But while Kim is immersed in one of the most complicated investigations she's ever led, her team are caught up in a spate of sickening hate crimes. Kim is close to revealing the truth behind the murders, yet soon finds one of her own is in jeopardy - and the clock is ticking. Can she solve the case and save them from grave danger - before it's too late? An addictive, sinister crime thriller that will have readers on the edge of their seat. What readers are saying about Angela Marsons 'I love this series, and Angela Marsons has joined the ranks of authors I would drop anything else I was doing to read, and whose books I put on pre-order without even stopping to read the blurb.' Jen Med's Book Reviews (5 stars) 'My heart didn't beat right the whole way through this one! I actually had to read this on the floor as the edge of my seat was too uncomfortable! It is a real rollercoaster of a ride ... this is one book you do NOT want to miss!' Emma the Little Book Worm 'All the stars lighting a clear night sky are not enough to rate this book. Believe me! I just LOVE this author and LOVE Kim Stone!! I cannot recommend this series enough. If you haven't yet read any of Angela Marsons' books, you're seriously missing out' Relax and Read Book Reviews 'With no let up in pace, the author doesn't give you time to catch your breath before she hits you with another shocking twist. The Book Review CafE 'The Detective Inspector Kim Stone books are nothing short of brilliant.' Nigel Adams Book Worm 'Gripping ... so many twists and turns... fast paced with plenty of psychological mind games that will leave you reeling.' Chapter In My Life 'A gripping, emotional and addictive read. My only concern is how the author is going to top this book as how can you improve on perfection itself? Outstanding!!!' This series is great 👍🏻 this one had a right nail biter of an ending. Themes and exploration of hate crimes that I thought were done well.

Cathythoughts I like the sound of that ending 👍🏻 4y
squirrelbrain Ah yes, had to look at the synopsis, but this was definitely a good one! (Not that any of them aren‘t....🤣) 4y

First book completed for #AwesomeAugust and I‘m ready to jump into the next Kim Stone. This wasn‘t a favorite of mine and I think it‘s because there was so much going on and the content was heavy. It was still good and Kim Stone is still a badass DI!

Andrew65 Well done 👏👏👏 She is a great, but deep, character. 4y

From Helen Grace to Kim Stone after a busy day yesterday. I need a little of crazy strong female detectives to keep me from slipping into another slump. 💪

RachelAmphlett Angie‘s books are great! 4y
eanderson @RachelAmphlett I agree! She‘s awesome! 4y

I was distracted by ‘rona brain again this week. There was nothing inherently wrong with this, I just didn‘t like how Kim was separated from her team as those dynamics are what I love about this series. Also the big bads were too frighteningly realistic especially in this day and age.

TrishB Bloody Rona.... 4y
MicheleinPhilly @TrishB I‘ve just finally accepted that I will have good days and bad days and good weeks and bad weeks. I think it was the realization that we‘ve now been under quarantine for almost 2 months (we started before the official orders because we were both sick) and there is still no end in sight. 😩 4y
TrishB We‘re on 7 weeks 3 days too....I understand totally. 3 good days, 1 really bad seems to be my pattern. Supposed to be my nieces wedding today, missing getting drunk and stupid with the family members I like. ☹️ 4y
MicheleinPhilly @TrishB Ugh! It will be that much more special when it does happen. ❤️ 4y
Crazeedi "Rona brain" - that's perfect! I'm stealing that? 4y

Yet another gripping book by a master storyteller. Old bones are found in a yard which leads to questions. Hate crimes are alarmingly growing. Strange things are happening in the Black Country. Kim has to work closely with someone she can‘t even face talking to. Great read, this time almost fully focusing on police work, very little about Kim herself. Dark, heavy, cruel and addictive. 4+ stars

I really loves this installment of the series. It tackled some pretty serious issues, but I think it was done in a good way. I really enjoyed getting more of Stacie in this one. We also get to meet the detectives on D.I Travis's team, which was really interesting. The mystery in this was very time sensitive with high stakes, making it a very quick read/listen.

TW: suicide, cutting, racial slurs, hate crimes, hate groups/white supremacists

This book was awesome yet confrontational and scary while beimg so timely. It dealt with hate crimes and motivations behind these crimes and it was hard to read especially knowing that such atrocities continue to be perpetrated against minorities or persons of different religious persausions. Loved it.

There's nothing like a D.I. Kim Stone thriller to get me out of a reading slump! I didn't like this one quite as much as the others in the series, the author shook the characters up a bit & took them out of their comfort zones, but I still sped through this so quickly that my fingertip feels blistered & my Kindle screen is getting a worn spot! Love the characters, the mystery, the action, & the way all the pieces fit together in the end!
