Bailedbailed

I‘m finally going to admit to myself that I‘m bailing on this. You‘ll rarely see me bail because I tend to just “hibernate” books til later. It‘s not to say it‘s not an important book, but the format is not for me. It‘s basically the transcripts from a podcast which goes from one item to another without a sense of continuity. I feel sure it would be better in its original podcast format.

Kenyazero Very interesting. I don't think I've come across any books that are transcripts of a podcast, but that doesn't sound like a good transition. I also love that you said you hibernate books. I do that and I'm now going to call it hibernating. 4y
megnews @Kenyazero I can‘t take credit for the term. I think I heard it first from @Cinfhen who first heard it from someone else. I can‘t recall. It‘s the perfect word for it! 4y
Kenyazero @megnews Credit where it's due! I'm glad you could spread the use of this term. Doing your part! 4y

Cinfhen I first got the term from @julesG and I use it all the time @Kenyazero 🐻giving credit xxx 4y
Cinfhen Sorry book didn‘t work for you Megan ~ but sometimes you gotta #HailTheBail 🙌🏻♥️ 4y
julesG @Kenyazero @Cinfhen Yes, it was me. I used to not bail but put books back on the shelf for hibernation. 4y
megnews @julesG I put them on a to be continued shelf but this one I‘m just bailing. Hibernation is the perfect expression for it. 4y

With racial tensions continuing to rise within the US, this book & many others like it are so important to help with a much needed dialogue. I posted a much longer stream of consciousness about this book on Instagram (same handle for those who are interested) & I received a racially motivated response to the title of the book: “When you were picking cotton in the fields.” Rather than respond I alerted Instagram & blocked the user. #takethehighroad

TrishB Sorry to hear that ☹️ 5y

Have Black Lives Ever Mattered? is like a brief history of police brutality and white supremacy told through experiences and news clippings. Highly recommended. As a 25 year old white person, there were a lot of events in this book that I was ashamed to not remember or know about. #blacklivesmatter

My #bookhaul from City Lights today! I‘ve been in San Fran plenty of times in the past yet never managed to get there before now. Three of these were published by them, which I figured was fitting. And clearly I was in a certain mood while shopping. 😂

Linsy Love that window! 6y
Hooked_on_books @Linsy Isn‘t it cool? It‘s at the Hotel Zephyr in Fisherman‘s Wharf area. All the rooms have one and it has a shade. It‘s a fun hotel! 6y

I found this book at the airport bookstore while killing time before working my next flight. Title caught my eye and the synopsis sounded really intriguing, so I thought I‘d give it a try. Looking forward to delving into this.

Quasifesto I haven‘t read that one, but Mumia is the real deal. Adding to my TBR. 7y
Skygoddess1 The 1981 incident happened a few years before I was born, so this is a story I‘m not familiar with, and I‘ve never read anything by Mumia, so I‘m most definitely looking forward to this. 7y

A timely book. Published this year, this is a collection of several smaller articles on race written while in jail. These are great essays that are extremely timely, but to me, it makes a difference they were written under Obama rather than Trump. He does repeat himself at times as they are short, short essays. Quick afternoon read too.

I need this book! Written by Mumia Abu-Jamal. Never heard of him? Look him up! Crazy story, a lot of people think he was wrongfully convicted and he remains a well-spoken activist from prison.

See also: the documentary called "In Prison My Whole Life" for Mumia's story.
