From the outside, the Cane family looks like they have it all. A successful military father, a loving mother and five beautiful teenage daughters. But on the inside, life isn't quite so idyllic: the Cane sisters can barely stand each other, their father is always away, and their neglectful mother struggles with addiction and depression. When their youngest and most beloved sister, Rose, dies in a tragic accident, Mona Cane and her sisters are devastated. And when she is brought back from the dead, they are relieved. But soon they discover that Rose must eat human flesh to survive, and when their mother abandons them, the sisters will find out just how far they'll go to keep their family together.

This one took a while to get to the good stuff and I still can‘t weigh whether or not the build was worth the wait, but it was certainly a fun read…

After 200 pages. But after that it was all really fun stuff.

4⭐'s. Wow this was a very dark book! These sisters had some major issues especially Juliet. I spent the whole book wondering when that girl was going to snap.

Ummm yes please! More like this! I‘ve been on a mad library book binge, I can‘t read any of the 100s of books that I own of course, and this was a winner! I was a bit wary when I realized it was YA, not being snobby, I just don‘t gravitate towards that genre. A surprising amount of pretty graphic violence in the last 1/3 that really blew my socks off. Not too scary, but pleasantly gross if that is what lights your 🔥

#busread the other day I was like what should I read, even though I am currently reading several books, and all I had from the library was horror! It was a good day. I had no idea this was YA, and it‘s gory. I dig it. There just aren‘t enough young adult books about cannibalism 👌🏻

Zelma 😆 I just went on a cannibalism kick in my reading. Grisly but fascinating. 6y
Reagan @Zelma I love it! Super dark but I can‘t get enough! 6y

Do my eyes deceive me?! Is this #RavenMail?!?
I thought I was being shunned, but @Maggie & @Shortstack stepped up to assure me that I‘m not. So excited for this read! I think it‘s from @BarbaraTheBibliophage 😈

Shortstack Glad you finally had someone send you some books. Did you ever get the other two? Or just the ones from Maggie? I‘m debating reordering them for the second time right now. 😓 7y
Maggie4483 So glad you got it. I‘m rushing my way through the next one, too. 7y
LauraJ @Maggie No rush, my two other clubs are behind too (hence the shunned feeling) and my irl book club is reading the lengthy (edited) 7y
LauraJ @Shortstack I‘m sad about the journals that aren‘t coming around. I know people took care choosing and setting them up. 7y

Most of the story was given away in the blurb. I was warned not to try this author. I had attempted to read another one of her books but couldn't get through it. Now I wasted my time on this hyped up story full of promise, failed with an execution in the toilet. What a let down.

I wanted so badly to love this book. It was one of my most anticipated releases of the year! Sadly, though, it fell short for me. The characters are terrible, the entire plot is spoiled by the synopsis, and the writing is mediocre. I hear that Amy's earlier works are MUCH better, so I'll give her a second chance, but I can't recommend this one. 😞 #horror #zombies

BookishBlonde12 Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy this one, but love the pic! 7y

I enjoyed this! It might be my favourite book by Amy Lukavics. Like her other books, there is lots of tension and a slow burn building up to a fast-paced finish. Excellent for this time of year.

When you‘ve been excited for a book most of the year and it turns out to be majorly disappointing... 💔😭 I‘m halfway done and just struggling.

BekahB Oh no! I loved Devils Unto Daughters. Too bad this one isn't living up to it. 7y

I love when pre-orders arrive early! I also love YA horror, and Amy Lukavics' previous books (Daughters Unto Devils; The Women in the Walls) have been creepy and gory and fun, so I've got high hopes for this new book of hers!

These are my #mostanticipated releases this month!

Btw...Rise of the Jumbies is a sequel to The Jumbies. Unfortunately, the write-up for Rise of the Jumbies has a plot spoiler for the first book, so if you're interested in reading the books, avoid reading the description for Rise. 😄

I got this as an ARC from Harliquin Teen and I'm very grateful to them for sending out my way.

While it was fairly obvious that Rose was going to be some sort of zombie/canibal type character I still loved this book. I understand that some may have found it predictable and while I do partially agree, I thought that there were enough twists and turns to hold my attention until the very end. I would recommend this book for any fan of horror.
