1st bk of the yr is for our rdg grp next week so on wed when i read in the opening chapter of a trump like president demanding to start a nuclear strike on N Korea + china due to a tweet i laughed however given today's news i put this political thriller down wondering whether truth is in fact stranger than fiction. Certainly a great premise to craft a novel, a fun romp but in the end i felt it ran out of steam. However interesting start to 2020.

A political thriller in which a racist, misogynist bully of a US President (you know where this is going right?) comes seconds away from launching the nuclear attack that may very well destroy the world. The President himself isn‘t given a lot of space here, the story is about the actions and decisions of those around him. At times daft and implausible, then alternately bone chillingly close to reality, it grabbed me from the first page.

yeahnonotagain Too relatable? I'm struggling with books that hit a little too close to our current reality but this subs interesting 5y
JillR @readingoversleeping It‘s a great read but intentionally hits very close to reality in many aspects 5y
yeahnonotagain @JillR stacking, when my heart feels stronger I'll give it a go! Thanks :) 5y

This was a very easy holiday read. At first I enjoyed the fact that this is a very thinly veiled representation of current figures in US politics. In the end though, there were a few too many “references” for me, and the plot became a bit hysterical. Good for a laugh but missed the mark for me.

An entertaining novel, with almost frightening topicality, though somehow it never quite managed to be as good as I expected. Read my goodreads review at: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34524050-to-kill-the-president.

This was a real page turner hooking me from the first page. At times it felt like I was reading the news as the parallels with the real world was too close. Definitely recommend if you enjoy political thrillers.

"That skirt far too short for a teenager on primetime. Still, if she wants to perform a private show for me @WhiteHouse, the answer is yes!"

I know it's only fiction but it feels like I'm reading the online news or a certain person's twitter feed!

Cathythoughts It really does! Scarey. 7y
nickimags @Cathythoughts I'm going to have to find out when he started writing this and if anyone in the White House has read it? 7y
