The Templars' Last Secret
The Templars' Last Secret: A Bruno, Chief of Police novel | Martin Walker
9 posts | 11 read | 5 to read
Bruno, the beloved chief of police in the idyllic French town of St. Denis, is back! This time a mysterious death brings ancient secrets to light, and it's up to our hero--and favorite gourmand--to connect the tangled threads of past and present When a woman's body is found at the foot of a cliff near St. Denis, Bruno suspects a connection to the great ruin that stands on the cliff above: the Chteau de Commarque, a long-ago Knights Templar stronghold which, along with the labyrinth of prehistoric caves beneath it, continues to draw the interest of scholars. With the help of Amlie, a young newcomer to the Dordogne, Bruno learns that the dead woman was an archaeologist searching for a religious artifact of incredible importance, the discovery of which could have dramatic repercussions throughout the Middle East--not to mention in St. Denis. And the woman's ties to Islamic terrorists can only heighten the pressure on Bruno to unravel the centuries-old mystery. Meanwhile, an old flame of Bruno's is assigned to work with him on the case, and the two find time, naturellement, to enjoy the supreme pleasures of the wine, food, and beauty of the Dordogne.

Love this cover of a table set for a meal,as local food & Bruno‘s chef abilities are so much a part of this series!A woman is found dead at the foot of a cliff-was it an accident or deliberate murder? At the cliff‘s top is an old stronghold of Knights Templar.I went through a phase if researching the history of this group-The dead woman, an archeologist, was searching for religious artifacts.Ties to Islamic terrorists,an old love, present politics.

Crazeedi I need to see where I left off on this series! 4y

I really like the Bruno-books. Had a hard time putting this down, once it started to take up pace.

The thing I liked the most was, that the main threat was the IS-terror, but it was funded and explained. Loads of new crime stories have IS-terrorists as the bad guys but it always feels like it‘s the easy go-to-threat because it‘s here and real and contemporary. But here it didn‘t feel like that at all.

Another good mystery set in the commune of St. Denis, Brunos friends are exploring the caves of prehistory when a body is found at the foot of the caves. Is there a Templar buried here? Find out in this 10th installment

Cozy mystery + sorbet = perfect Sunday

Idyllic French countryside, mysterious murder in the combination with history, archeology and terrorism, a little bit of French cuisine, nice main character ... nothing extremely special, but if you are looking for easy, uncomplicated series then I would recommend this one.

julesG I hope you like it. 6y
Simona @julesG I little history, beautiful French countryside, one curious dog, single police officer, not so brutal murder ... I‘m five chapters in, and so far I like it 👍😘 6y

These covers are similar enough that there was a second there when I was buying the newest book that I wasn't sure that it was a new book
