Turf Wars Part One
Turf Wars Part One | Michael Dante DiMartino
19 posts | 22 read | 8 to read
Relishing their newfound feelings for each other, Korra and Asami leave the Spirit World . . . but find nothing in Republic City but political hijinks and human vs. spirit conflict! A pompous developer plans to turn the new spirit portal into an amusement park, potentially severing an already tumultuous connection with the spirits. What's more, the triads have realigned and are in a brutal all-out brawl at the city's borders--where hundreds of evacuees have relocated! In order to get through it all, Korra and Asami vow to look out for each other--but first, they've got to get better at being a team and a couple! Written by series co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino and drawn by Irene Koh T.M.N.T., Sensation Comics featuring Wonder Woman, Secret Origins: Batgirl, Afrina and the Glass Coffin) and with consultation by Bryan Konietzko, this is the official continuation of The Legend of Korra!

Happy #nationalcomingoutday litsy! To mark the occasion, I‘m sharing a few #queerbooks and other media that brought me moments of pride and joy (is there a queer essay collection called Pride and Joy yet? There should be).

LGBTQ2SIA+ Littens, whether you‘re out to yourself or out to the world, I‘m glad to be under the rainbow with you 💖🌈

WhatDeeReads I have watch The Emotion Picture no fewer than 30 times. I may watch it again today. 6y
Broke_Girl_Reads @WhatDeeReads Same!! Janelle can do no wrong! 6y
CouronneDhiver Excuse my ignorance... what does the end of that acronym stand for? I know the LGBTQ part... 6y
See All 6 Comments
Broke_Girl_Reads @CouronneDhiver it‘s a fair question! 2S stands for Two Spirit, a respected gender identity among the indigenous people of North America. This is a good explainer on it: https://www.google.com/amp/s/newsmaven.io/indiancountrytoday/api/amp/indiancount... 6y
Broke_Girl_Reads @CouronneDhiver the I stands for Intersex, which is people who are born with bodies that aren‘t easily categorizable as biologically male or biologically female. And then the A is Asexual or Aromantic, people who don‘t experience sexual attraction, or don‘t experience romantic feelings 6y
hoggman @Broke_Girl_Reads although inclusion of the I is falling out of favor recently. I've heard from many more people who dont want to be included than who do, since theirs is a medical state, not a gender. (Not telling you off or anything, its not *wrong* anyway, just think its interesting) 6y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I really wish that this could have been part of the cartoon but the art in this comic was much more gorgeous. I loved seeing Korra and Asami together romantically after the heavy implication they got together at the end of the series, from the little moments on their vacation to a dramatic kiss after saving each other‘s lives. The LGBTQ history of the avatar world is really interesting too. The plot is intriguing so far!

If my camera was facing my face instead of the comic you‘d see tears streaming. This is everything I ever wanted.

queerbookreader Queer content in avatar????????? I didn't know about this!! Maybe I should finally give it a shot omg. What books or series would you recommend I start at 6y
queerbookreader Disclaimer is the only bit I know about avatar is from what I remember of the tv show a billion years ago. I remember those giant buffalos with the arrow symbol and that is literally it lmao 6y
Lylah @queerbookreader this comic series (there are three and one comes out in August) is the only one that explores a queer relationship in the whole Avatar universe so far. More could be coming. Legend of Korra‘s last season had hints of the two main characters having romantic feelings for each other and ended with a heavy implication that they get together. I‘d recommend watching LoK at least before trying the comics, especially since it‘s for an 6y

Lylah @queerbookreader ...older audience and the plot is a lot more sophisticated generally because the writers had years to mull on possibilities for the universe they created. It‘s really good! 6y
Lylah @queerbookreader one of the two main writers of the series identifies as queer and wanted a queer relationship in the tv show. Nickelodeon wouldn‘t approve it but the show moved from airing on TV to airing online only, which gave the writers more freedom. That writer is the sole writer of these graphic novels and there‘s a lot more space to explore the implications of a relationship between two bisexual women here! 6y
queerbookreader Okay thank you so much!!! Will check out all 6y

This graphic novel (like all the Avatar graphic novels) is very expensive for its length, but thankfully my library had it! 🌈🎉

I burned through Parts 1 & 2 of this LoK continuation on Friday, and I'm pleased so far. Writer DiMartino and artist Irene Koh balance plenty of action and political intrigue with good character moments, including a hefty emphasis on how Korra and Asami navigate their new relationship. They come out to their friends and family in stages, as you do, and figure out how it WORKS when two people with weighty responsibilities mesh their lives.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Must read this. 7y

Love this so much. There were so many haters who wouldn't acknowledge Korra/Asami. This awesome (and way too short) Turf Wars story made their relationship clear.

On Sunday, when I was watching my nephew, he went into my bag & pulled out the graphic novel Fables & said, Auntie, can we read a book? When I saw which one it was, I decided to switch it out with this book. He's 3 & Fables is for mature audiences. Plus I was excited to share with him something so close to my heart. The Legend of Korra is one of my all-time favorite TV shows & the fact that it ended with these two together makes my gay heart happy

MayginReads I failed to take a picture of this scene before I returned this book, so I borrowed this picture from another Litten. 😲 7y
TheLibrarian You might want to tag this as a spoiler for those of us that haven‘t seen the show or read the whole series. 7y
MayginReads @TheLibrarian I appreciate the feedback. Since this happens within the first few pages, I didn't think it needed to be marked ias a spoiler. On Litsy, nearly all of the reviews for this book show this picture. I'm so sorry if you feel I've spoiled something for you. That was not my intent. 7y
TheLibrarian @MayginReads No worries! I don‘t know where that books falls in with the show but towards the end of season 2 it hasn‘t happened yet. 7y

This graphic novel is totally part 1 of an illustrated Korrasami fanfic, and it is absolutely everything we needed!! I 💙 Dark Horse for not giving a fudge and totally embracing them!! They are freaking adorable, and as a power couple they will become a force to be reckoned with. I cannot wait for part 2! I want my graphic novels like I want my TV shows...available all at once so I can spend a whole weekend bingeing and avoiding housework.
