Sherlock Holmes vs. Dracula
Sherlock Holmes vs. Dracula | Loren D. Estleman
5 posts | 7 read | 3 to read
A mysterious schooner runs aground in an English harbour. Its cargo is fifty boxes of earth; its only living passenger, a black dog. The captain's body is lashed to the wheel—drained of blood. Soon, a rash of bizarre nocturnal crimes terrifies London. It can only be the work of Count Dracula, and only one man can save the city: the world's greatest detective, SHERLOCK HOLMES.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive, and ever growing, TBR shelves. Some are old and some are new, some were gifts and some I don't remember why I bought them.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.

I was excited to find this book through Thrift Books. I am not excited by the stickers they use so I won't buy from them again. I think I can get them off ok but it's going to take time and patience. There was some discussion of this in another post but now I can find it. Just a heads up to those who were considering the site for books. I'm not as concerned about it on the other book because I plan to donate it or pass it along when I'm done.

suvata I know. Those stickers are horrible. 7y
Mariposa_Bookworm A cotton ball with a little rubbing alcohol will take off the residue the stickers leave. 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @Mariposa_Bookworm I'm a little worried about even trying to take them off because they're stuck in really well. 7y

Rachael_reads You may have seen a picture very similar to yours on my page. Lol 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @Rachael_reads I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem! 7y
jfalkens If you take them off slowly it's ok. I've gotten orders from Thriftbooks before, free shipping, good price on used books and reading rewards are hard to pass up on. 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @jfalkens I figure I can get some of them off because they aren't as pressed on. I still probably won't use them much because of the stickers. That's probably best for my bank account, though. 😉 7y
jfalkens @jpmcwisemorgan the harder to remove stickers are newer, I wonder if we complained if they'd not put the stickers on the books or make them easier to remove, not as pressed on. 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @jfalkens If enough people said something they might stop or switch to something easier to remove. 7y
jfalkens @jpmcwisemorgan you should contact them, my last order was too long ago. 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @jfalkens I think I'm going to have to do that. 7y
jfalkens @jpmcwisemorgan you'll have to let us know how it turns out ☺ 7y

Pickpick

This one was hard to get into at first. Then, I started imagining Watson and Sherlock from the BBC show in my head - much better! It was a pleasure to slow down and enjoy every word and image of the book.

MrBook Hesitant to read this one, but I'm leaning more toward reading it now. Thank your for your insight! 😊 8y
Pandalibrarian You're welcome! Our book group is discussing it in September, I think. I'll let you know what the consensus is. 8y
