El silencio de la ciudad blanca
El silencio de la ciudad blanca: Trilogia de la Ciudad Blanca 1 | Eva García Saénz de Urturi
16 posts | 17 read | 13 to read

I was totally immersed in the setting which is Vittoria, Spain. I'm a suckered for a good serial killer story and whilst this had a great deal of potential I admit to getting frustrated with the characters. With that said I'm still going to read the next in the series as I really enjoy this authors writing style.

I have contradictory feelings about this one.On the one hand,I liked the settings and it left me really wanting to visit Vitoria;on the other I absolutely hated the dialogues, that felt out of a parody of a noir movie;I liked all the symbolising of the murders and it was a good serial killer story, but the murderer didn't really surprise me. I cringed reading the tweets, but in general I'm not ready to accept the inclusion of social media in books.

nanuska_153 The "So-So" option has never felt as suitable as it does here, but yes, I'll be reading the second one. 2y

A few annoying dangling threads, but overall an intricate and immersive mystery set in Basque Country. Some characters are better fleshed out than others, but I‘m intrigued to see where they take the MC in future installments. Another #series added to the list! Since I spent the morning finishing this, I now need to jump in the shower and get ready to go meet with my sister at a farewell party for some mutual friends. 1/2 #readathon

I wanted to like this more, since I already bought book 2. It started off well, with immersive descriptions of Spain, and interesting characters. However, by the end, the detective‘s partner turned into an idiot and the solution to the murders was so far-fetched that it was just annoying. I really liked the writing style, so I‘ll probably read the next book, but I won‘t buy the third until after. This is my color in the title for #booked2021

Cinfhen Sorry it was disappointing 😞seems like it had potential. At least you knocked off a prompt💚✅ 3y
DGRachel @Cinfhen I think I‘ll skip the audiobook on the second one. I didn‘t like the narration so I was already predisposed to be underwhelmed. Maybe if I‘d read it in my head instead of with someone else‘s inflections, I wouldn‘t have been quite so annoyed with the sidekick. I still would have hated the solution. 🤷ðŸ»â€â™€ï¸ 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Sigh … sorry it wasn‘t what you hoped for … 😢 3y

I enjoyed this intense translated mystery/thriller set in Vitoria, Spain and featuring an imperfect yet sympathetic detective and a well drawn cast of supporting characters, including the city itself and its citizenry. This is the first of a trilogy and I will definitely enjoy revisiting Kraken‘s City again.âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸

“I know everyone in Vitoria was stunned by the fact that I had been shot in the head, and if thinking hadn‘t been a physical impossibility just then, it would have moved me to tears. A policeman never expects to close a case by becoming the final victim of a serial killer who has plunged his city into a state of terror, but life has sly ways of playing tricks on you. So…yes, things didn‘t turn out too well for me.â€

What a compelling prologue! 🤓

Someone recommended this book to me, saying that if I don't like it he's willing to pay its price back to me. Well, I did like it, but maybe my expectations were a bit too high. The twist at the end was masterful but it felt a bit too drawn-out to me.

I read this book. because I felt left out in the buddy read that most of my book friends were doing. It was a little slow and confusing at first listening to the audio, but think it was because I was doing something that needed more attention at the time other than the translation. It really got going once I could concentrate on what was going on.

I would recommend this to anyone that likes juicy police procedurals.

This book is amazing. It's a mystery. The man convicted of 8 murders is about to be released on parole. But then the murders begin again. Is he somehow controlling this from prison or did they convict the wrong guy? It's very good. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

I absolutely loved this book. Set in the Basque Country in Spain, about a series of ritualistic murders similar ones that were committed 20 years earlier- but the man convicted of the original murders is in prison. I loved the setting and the history that was intertwined with the mystery. I hope the other two books in the trilogy are translated soon! 4.5 ââââðŸ’«

This book got amazing reviews! One of my favorite book reviewers makes it sound like it‘s one of her favorite books ever. But I am finding it so boring. It starts off with a bang, but now, a week later, I am only on page 135. Thinking of bailing; though I may skip ahead to find out who the killer is 🙈

You nailed it, @angela_fi13 , with these #CupidGoesPostal book selections. Rosa Montero is familiar to me, but I had not read this one and the edition is lovely! The crime novel looks right up my alley — a mystery with archeology and mythology, AND written by a woman. ðŸ‘🼠The last one is totally new to me but I‘m a sucker for philosophical novels about too-intelligent people dealing with aging and mortality. Thank you!

Avanders Looks really good — doesn‘t look like there‘s an English translation? Are this author‘s books typically translated? Reading Spanish would be worse than a slog for me... I‘m not nearly good enough 😜 6y
AnnHeitman I don't like Rosa Montero that much...but all my girl friends readers love her!! 6y
angela_fi13 Me alegra muchísimo que haya llegado a salvo!!! Pero además que te guste mi selección es un motivo más de alegría para mi. Abrazos!!! Y espero que lo disfrutes mucho! 6y
