Reading came to a screeching halt when the heroine‘s Indian friend declares herself a Hindu who believes in reincarnation and karma. Idea that 1 is reborn into a terrible life form because of sins in a past one is the caste system. By this logic, people labeled dirty and untouchable are told it‘s because of their past life sins. Do better, Nalini and other Indian writers.Don‘t savarna -wash Indian culture while earning brownie #ownvoices points 😡
Nalini Singh's usually hit or miss for me, but I loved this one SO MUCH! The heroine's wonderful! The hero's sweet! (Bonus points because he never chokes her to demonstrate how much he loves her, which seems to be one of Singh's authorial preoccupations.) Auckland, my favourite city in the world, feels very much like itself! Hurray!
I'll look forward to the rest of the Bishop-Esera brothers books, whensoever they appear.
Hot day + hammock + book + delicious beer.
I'm gonna finish this excellent NZ romance, then wallow in WOLVERINE for a bit before I decide if I fancy a queer portal fantasy or the CALENDAR GIRL finale next.
Breakfast with Nalini Singh. I love this book, but it's making me sooooooo homesick. There's this bit where the heroine drives past a Mount Eden produce store *I* used to pass all the time, and I swear I almost started blubbering in the public plaza.
Earlier today, I read a goodly chunk of CHERISH HARD in a fancy plaza. Then I wandered a lot, went to a barbecue, cuddled my favourite Schnauzer, and drank three Pim's Cups (Pims Cups? Pims' Cups?).
It was a pretty good day.
This is my, "THANK ALL THE GODS; I DON'T HAVE CANCER" library haul.
I DO have some mineral deficiencies that explain why I've felt shitty and been unable to concentrate, but those are easily treatable. The lump doesn't even need to be drained unless it grows a bit bigger. Whew.
Celebratory books were DEFINITELY in order. I also got a couple of new-to-me beers to drink while I read.
Oh the final HEA this time was so good 😍 I loved it I loved it I loved it. For everybody who think they are working hard and doing everything the world throws at them! This book should have been dedicated to you. In all the characters you will find a piece of you. A shout out to Nalini Singh we want to read Nayna and Raj's story too!
