The Girl Before meets The Couple Next Door in an utterly satisfying Hitchcockian story about a couple who moves into their dream neighborhood only to discover nothing is as it seems... The perfect couple. The perfect house. THE PERFECT CRIME. Londoners Jack and Syd found their dream home: lots of space, a great location, and a friendly owner who wanted a young couple to have it. Everything is exactly what they hoped for when they move in--except Jack makes a disturbing discovery in the attic, and Syd begins to wonder about the girl next door. And they each keep the other in the dark. A mistake. Because someone has just been murdered outside their back door, and the police are watching them. This is their chance to prove they're innocent, or to get away with murder. Whose story do you believe?

I think I‘m gonna start this one either tonight or tomorrow.

In the mood for a thriller. 🖤

Also, I really enjoyed Foul Is Fair. I didn‘t love it, but it was very entertaining. I‘m glad I read it.

Jack, I loved. I liked him from the very beginning. Syd, though, I was not a fan of. She immediately comes out the gate super aggressive. And I do understand why she is the way she is but it really set the tone for her through the whole book and I just wasn‘t a fan. I did enjoy the premise though, how Lelic brought all of the pieces together, and the conclusion was satisfactory. Syd still just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

One of the reviews on the cover stated that this book is a "terrifying thriller." I was not terrified or really all that thrilled.

The story is told from the perspectives of the 2 main characters, Jack and Sydney. Each giving their version of events. It was not difficult to read or follow but I was really hoping for more. I wanted to be scared and it just didn't happen. I would say this was more drama and a "who dunnit" style vs thriller.

This book is definitely a psychological fest.

If you enjoy characters that are secretly twisted and a story line that keeps you wondering, watching, and waiting, THE NEW NEIGHBORS is for you.

It is difficult to rate this book because it held my interest, but it also was frustrating. 3.5/5

I ended up with somewhat mixed feelings about this one. It wasn‘t anything like I expected and felt more like a family drama than a thriller or mystery. It also wrapped up too neatly and “happy” than I would have expected and liked for this sort of story. This being said I did like how the majority of the story was presented like a confessional from each of the main characters. Overall okay. 🌟🌟🌟

Jack and Syd narrate alternating chapters, explaining how everything has gone downhill so quickly, & how they became involved. We gather the important information in snippets: they were surprised to win the bid on a house after several rejections & start clearing the junk left behind by the owner. A smell soon leads Jack to the attic for the first surprise in store for them.
I guessed the twist early on but this was a solid fast paced thriller.

Super excited I received a digital ARC of this thriller! My very first galley! (*performs awkward moonwalk dance a la Nick in New Girl*)

Mix a bit of Law & Order- Special Victims Unit, The Shining, and Gone Girl together and you have a recipe for a crazy twisted ride. Simon Lelic has created a creepy novel that once again proves that the scariest stories do not involve ghosts and goblins but it is what PEOPLE do to one another that is truly terrifying.
