On April 15, 1912, three women climbed into Lifeboat 21 and watched in horror as the Titanic sank into the icy depths. They were strangers then...Con artist Charlotte Digby lied her way through London and onto the Titanic. The disaster could be her chance at a new life--if she hides the truth about her past. Esme Harper, a wealthy American, mourns the end of a passionate affair and fears that everything beautiful is slipping from her grasp. And Anna Halversson, a Swedish farm girl in search of a fresh start in America, is tormented by the screams that ring out from the water. Is one of them calling her name?Twenty years later, a sudden death brings the three women back together, forcing them to face the impossible choices they made, the inconceivable loss, and the secrets they have kept for far too long.

This was a wonderful different perspective on the Titanic tragedy. This book took the perspectives of 3 women 1st class, 2nd class and 3rd class. The focus was more on how the events of that night changed their lives rather than the actual tragedy of the boat skinking being the main point. I loved how all three women were on the same life boat and how they stories all collided several years later.

At times I felt this was a little dull, but now I‘ve finished I realised I quite enjoyed it. Three women board The Titanic, and we first hear some of their story as to what brought each of them there. The focus however is the launching of the lifeboats and the decisions that were made; decisions that in many cases lasted a lifetime. Overall I found it a quiet story, well told, about a part of the disaster I didn‘t know much about.

November‘s #girlybookclub pick - we all rather enjoyed it and agreed that if we didn‘t know the story of the Titanic was true, the world‘s largest ship hitting an iceberg on her maiden voyage and sinking, losing most of her passengers & crew because she only had enough lifeboats for 1/2 of the people on board would have been the least believable part of this book.

This is a nice quiet book. If you like a book that is all about the characters and not about plot this one may be worth checking out. It tells the stories of 3 women who survived the Titanic. I liked the women but I wanted them to be more compelling & to see them develop & evolve more. Overall, they felt very static. I read this for a book club, but I don‘t think I would have picked it up or finished it otherwise.

rubyslippersreads I ended up liking this much more than I expected to. 5y
Redjewel_7734 @rubyslippersreads I‘m glad! I wanted to like it more than I did, but it just didn‘t quite cross the line for me 😊 5y
JazzFeathers I actually quite liked it. I found the narrative structure very clever. 5y
Redjewel_7734 @JazzFeathers I‘m glad you liked it! It‘s definitely not a bad book...it was right on the line between pick & so-so for me; it just never quite nudged over to pick. 5y

That night, she felt more generous. Most of the people there were so young and eager for approval. It was the easiest sort of kindness to say something nice and watch them bloom, as if compliments were currency and Charlotte a benevolent ruler tossing out coins from her carriage.

Three women, one ill-fated ship ~ I felt that something was lacking that made me invested in these women, something that might make them more personable. Each commits acts that make them realistic, but I wanted to like each of them more than I did. I felt as though it was a bit contrived. It fell a bit flat with me. However, if you are interested in historical fiction based around this event, this may be your next great read on the topic. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Really enjoyed this quiete novel about the survivors of the Titanic.
Very well done historical setting spanning two decades. Nice, relatable characters. Meaningful message.

The tructure of the story was the most interesting aspect. The twists and turns in the timeline lended meaning to all the events.
Nice one.

Not fairy tale related, but in this book one of the three main characters, Charlotte, is a girl of rare #beauty ... and she knows exactly how to use it.
