Death in Disguise
Death in Disguise: Inspector Barnaby #3 | Caroline Graham
12 posts | 11 read | 3 to read
The Lodge of the Golden Windhorse has provided the citizens of Compton Dando with splendid fodder for gossip, prompting speculation of arcane rituals and bizarre sexual practices. But with the murder of the communes leaders, the rumor-mill goes into overdrive. In trying to solve those murders, Chief Inspector Barnaby is less excited than exasperated. The residents of the Windhorse commune may have been seeking the simple life, but theyre all concealing complicated pastsor past lives. Caroline Graham is at her most gleeful when skewering the eccentricities of a closed community, and no one survives unscathed.

The continuing series starring Inspector Barnaby and his sidekick Troy. Not my favorite, too much setting up of the murder , but worth reading to move on to next book.

I finally got to leave the house and go for a walk. It was a very windy day out there; that‘s probably why the tree fell. That wind kept it from being hot though. I still have 5 more hours left in this book, and I can‘t figure out what exactly could take up 5 hours. #audiowalk

Midsomer Murders probably made a conscious decision to make Sergeant Troy more likeable in the show. I think this served them well; he‘s got a lot of unpleasant traits in the books. It‘s jarring since I had watched the show before I read the books, and Troy is one of my favorite characters. #audiowalk

lauraisntwilder Aren't you loving the azaleas right now? I'm still relatively new to the area and they wow me every year 2y
KathyWheeler @lauraisntwilder I do love them. These are in my yard. 😊 2y

This is the third book in the Inspector Barnaby/Midsomer Murders series. I‘m in a mood for Barnaby and crew right now, so I picked up this audiobook as my new walking book. Since we went to the beach, we listened to The Last Coyote as well. #audiowalk

Suet624 What a beautiful place to walk to. 2y
KathyWheeler @Suet624 This is Johnson Beach on the Gulf Island National Seashore in Florida. It‘s a peaceful place to go. 2y
Suet624 I could use some Florida weather right now. 😂 2y

How I love listening to this series! In the 3rd installment of the Midsomer Murders series, Barnaby and Troy are called to investigate a suspicious death at the home of a religious group/cult. Graham really dives into the psyche of her characters in this one - it‘s a wild ride! #192025 #1992

I‘ve been listening to the audio books read by John Hopkins and I‘m loving them. These are the books that the Midsomer Murders are based on, but much more detail and depth than the tv series. This is the third in the series and I‘ve just started the fourth. Absolutely loving these mysteries read aloud to me.

Well, that was a weird, oddly specific little detail. “… a dead bluebottle fell on the usher‘s head.” It might be my occasionally weird sense of humor, but that line made me laugh.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa That is an odd little detail to include…🤔 3y

Not feeling well, so I left work early and am now sitting here in bed reading the 3rd Inspector Barnaby book. I don‘t expect to need much concentration for it.

Aims42 Hope you feel better!! A little relaxing and book reading can do wonders 😊 3y

I love the tv show “Midsomer Murders” and have watched all the seasons. So when I saw one of the books that the series is based on for sale at $3.99, I decided give it a try. It was really good, like the show. The only thing I did not like is that the character Troy in the book is a total jerk, I prefer him on the TV show.
