pickThis was one of those instances where I completely stumbled upon this book. I really like Scott Bricks voice & I love to listen to audiobooks. So I was compelled to check it out and it was pretty thrilling and I did enjoy it. The ending really pleased me! I was also very happy to learn that this was part of a collection of books that Nora Kelly & characters are developed in and so the story continues! Much to my delight!
pickThis had everything; mystery, violence, strong women, adventure peppered with a side of history. The book starts off with a letter Nora‘s father, an archaeologist, sent before disappearing on his quest for the fabled Quivira- the city of gold. The letter has instructions on how to reach there so Nora assembles a team to attempt it. But there are dark forces at play, with plans to foil Nora from reaching the ancient city to protect its secrets.
pickThis was a reread for me and I definitely enjoyed more the second time. While this isn't technically one of Preston and Child's Pendergast novels it does introduce Nora Kelly to Bill Smithback both of whom continue on in the Pendergast series. It's also a really creepy adventure book ⛺

I went to the used bookstore because they had the tagged book on hold for me. I told @dsfisher that I didn‘t have a list of books to look for and thought I‘d have trouble even spending $10. Oops. In my defense: #NORTONCRITICALEDITIONS that aren‘t all marked up and a Case Studies in Contemporary Criticism edition of Frankenstein in good shape! #LitMajorProblems
pickLucky hardcover find today. So dig this book. Was hanging around a museum ten, twelve years ago, and the security guard there told me this was the main book he reads, that he wished all the books were like this one. I agree.
This book is #fullofadventure with the search for a lost city in the remote canyons of Utah. It is one of Preston & Child's stand alone novels although two of the characters appear in the Pendergast series. #couldntputdown #booktober
