Trans people have always been part of the diverse group of beings we call human. In many cultures across time and space, trans people have not only been accepted, their existence has rightly been taken for granted. More recently, they have often been forced into hiding, been forced to deny who they are, even denied the cultural knowledge that they can exist. Trans people shouldn't have to fight to be accepted, they are born with the right to exist
Why did I only just realise it was this month in the uk?! I just found the tagged book on kindle in the uk for under Qa and I‘m looking forward to giving it a go soon.
I've learned so much from this book about the historical context of trans experience and identity, how it has been both separate from and linked with LGB identities, and the more recent recognition of non-binary identities. The growing mainstream recognition that trans-ness is not a pathology, rather a valid expression of personhood, is a significant change in social attitudes that I'm sure the present conservative backlash will not stem. 5🌟
Excellent, vital read. Great broad range of perspectives on trans history and culture in Britain. Essential reading if you want to know more about trans issues.
