Heh. Old favorite, and in many ways the antithesis of modern trends. 20-year-old heroine is about as far from an angsty lovelorn YA plot as you can get. Technically there is a love triangle, which the heroine doesn't clue in on for 80% of the book, because what sensible person would think about courtship amid an active-duty assignment? It makes me long for a sequel to continue the plot.

esurient (This is listed as book five in a series, but it's a standalone that shares a setting with Wrede's very first published books. This one is the best of them IMO.) 5y

This post is for @TheLondonBookworm who has Raven Ring - I just want to show you the other novels by Wrede set in her world of Lyra! Turnabout is fair play - you wreak havoc with my TBR routinely 📚
Many know her YA Sorcery&Cecelia series and even more her young reader Enchanted Chronicles. Before those she was writing awesome high fantasy in the '80s. These recent editions are slightly revised with matching covers - time for me to #reread!

elkeOriginal @TheLondonBookworm There is absolutely no correct order! When I was obsessed in the late '90s they were all out of print so I read them as I found them - you are so lucky they are available & in a matchy set now! I do remember Shadow Magic was my fave and Raven Ring was the ONLY one ever in hardcover (yes, I have that 😁). Happy collecting!

Bookworm54 I tend to write a list of several books for my present buyers to go through. That way whatever they pick is something on my tbr that I do not have, and also a semi-surprise! Haha 7y
