Disappointed in this one. You can tell that the author is a good writer. Her use of language is great but the book just didn‘t flow well. There was a lack of clarity that just didn‘t make it a good read.

30 pages in and so far so good. The setting is an Australian country town and its surrounding farmlands . I think some family secrets are about to be revealed....
Almost gave up. Very slow start. Kept going. Family secrets and a young girl listening and guessing and asking and finally finding the truth . The truth which I guessed correctly. Took me a while to get through this book. Loved the Aussie landscape. @MrsMalaprop #2020joybooks
A coming of age story of a curious girl trying to uncover her family's secrets. I found Olive to be brave and intelligent. Unfortunately I figured out the end. I loved the way the characters were written and the adult females all seemed to be battling their own trauma.
A truly recognisable landscape, an undercurrent of nostalgia and the slow unveiling of family secrets and the ripple effect they have made this a compelling read. Olive is brave, stubborn and naive as children are. Her pursuit of truth and justice come with unexpected consequences for herself. #stellaprize #ozfiction
This one has had its hooks in me most of the afternoon and I‘ve not yet worked out what‘s coming. #ozfiction #stellarprize
